Hi Fellas,
Finally got around to picking up my $250 SKS from my FFL. This is the mongrel dog as received. After giving it a close look over I found some features I've not seen before. First was the sling. I haven't encountered spring retainers with that type of adjustment hasp, usually those have a keeper with a slide. Pinned barrel, milled TG, grey bolt carrier.

I was mistaken on the arsenal. It's /416\# 21006149. All matching, bolt too, but the stock couldn't be easily salvaged, so I turned the Khyber Pass Fab Team loose on it. Looks like someone tried to "battle" age it, with kill hash marks and scratches, couple drill holes. Does it reek of "been there done that"...NOT. Bubba screwed up a good piece of wood, but it's only a Chinese...right.

After the moral equivalent of decosmolizing (paint stripping), the metal bits revealed quite a surprise.

Half a day of elbow grease between chores, and look what was under it all. Doesn't look to have been fired much, at all.

I had a nice pinned barrel side sling mount stock on it at first, but it was numbered.

Replaced with a blank pinned stock instead.

Didn't strip the bayo handle or cleaning rod yet, but it's an operationally functioning battle rifle. For now I'm done. Khyber Pass Fabrication Shop saves another. Looks made that way. Thanks Calguns TBM 1 (lead) & Glocked@45 (stock), PAX
Nice save!
Are you going to try strip the stock? It seems worth the effort...
nice work, you did good. beauty!!!!!!!!!!! thumb1

ditto.
Holes and notches notwithstanding, it's matching.
also, excellent job. Nice save.
Dang, that's a huge improvement, nice work!
Thanks guys. I'm very happy about the way it turned out, and the cost was reminiscent of not that long ago. It was a gamble, but I did OK. As far as the stock goes, this is the 3rd or 4th that I picked up painted. It's too much effort to strip them, and the damage done to this particular unit, versus the clothing it's wearing presently, just isn't worth it, matching or not. I never sell SKSs, but this will be better trade fodder looking the way it does now, should I go that route down the road. Are 3 SKSs in this shape worth a Winchester Garand (in Kali)?
Now I'm only 15 weapons from sighting in. I haven't been to the range in 2-3? years. PAX
