Title: 7.62x39 Stripper Clips in Ammo Can
Post by: rjinga on November 01, 2017, 06:57:27 PM
For anyone who didn't know already:  40 loaded 10-round 7.62x39 stripper clips will fit neatly into the standard 30 cal. ammo can.

Two cans = 800 rounds.  (Each can weighs in at 19.4 lbs)

Interesting. If they're in the original 40 round boxes of M67 on stripper clips from Yugoslavia, you can fit 16 boxes (640 rounds) per can.

In the regular, skinny 30 cal. ammo can?  That must be some serious packing then.

:o chuckles1  I misread. My numbers were for a standard .50 cal can  :-[

You're welcome.  And, in my case, I had boxed ammunition (20 rounds each).  So, I'd either have to load them one at a time into the mag, or put them on stripper clips anyway.  I got 28 stripper clips when I bought the rifle; I got 70 more today in the mail.

I wondered if maybe you were thinking .50 cal.   :)

Sounds like you're ready for a little shootin'!  thumb1

This is good to know.  I usually keep my ammo in the boxes it comes in unless I'm planning on using it within the week, then I'll load strippers or repack it.

Yep.  At the rate I've been shooting, those two cans would last me about eight range trips.

I guess I'm kinda planning for the unplanned.   ;)

Heh, unplanned is what the factory sealed Yugo m67 tins that are strewn about and under my place are for! Already on strippers and ready at a moment's notice!  :P

The rest is just cheap plinking ammo!  :))

And...

24 boxes (480 rounds) will fit in a Plano .30 cal box (#131200).  However, except for the clasp, everything else is plastic.  So, at 18.8 lbs, I'm not sure how much I'd trust the handle under heavy/harsh use.  I do think they'll be fine for static storage though.

A friend's house flooded, several ammo cans full of ammo were completely submerged for days. Once located all of the metal surplus cans continents were dry, all the the plastic cans continents were soaked and a complete loss. I ditched all the plastic cans I had and replaced them with metal surplus cans. There isn't a huge cost savings in metal vs plastic.

Those Plano boxes were quick purchases from Walmart when I didn't have any ammo containers at all.  Since then I've been buying metal ones.  However, the frugal person in me won't let me just get rid of them.

A 3 rd 81mm mortar can holds a crap ton of x39, especially loose... you will just need a hand cart to move it any distance  :) I have probably over 1k of 7.5 French boxed packed into one.

They measure 14.5 inchesx5.7 inchesx29.150 inches.

I've got a few of the PA-120 40mm ammo cans (17.25" x 5.5" x 9.5") filled with the more common cartridges in my ammo dump that aren't in spam cans, crates, or original case sized boxes: 7..62x39, 7.62x54R, 7.92x57mm, and .303. They can be moved while full using the two side handles, but lift carefully  :o  Those mortar cans are definitely great for maximum static storage with minimal floor space.

They holds lots and lots of shotgun shells too rofl2  Wonder how many x25, 9mm, or .22lr rounds would fit.... :o   rofl2  and I'm pretty sure a folding Ak or a Vz58 would fit as well thumb1
