$3700, $3500, $4165...it doesn't matter. The precise term is stack-o-cash!  :o

the problem with those auctions are your bid price + 10 -20% fees +taxes + shipping = more than you wanted to pay.

Of course something like this is an exception

Yes, I've bought about 70% of my collection at these online auctions. You have to be well prepared and it's often still a bit of a gamble. The "buyer's premium" in the US is now 15-25% (Morphy's is highest), typically around 20%. Below I've pasted a few tips edited somewhat from another post a couple of years ago:

"I'll share some of my experiences and strategies since I've participated in many of these large online auctions facilitated by Proxibid or iCollector over the last couple of years. I peruse the online catalogs beforehand and select a few or many targets depending on the lots available. Then I always prepare an Excel spreadsheet beforehand with the indicated bidding increments in one column and the actual cost with fees in the adjacent column. I decide on the max I'm willing to bid on each item based on the actual cost with fee.  Some of the auctions provide a cash discount, so that can save a little, but I generally still set my bid limits on the higher fee. I may discount my max bid for an item even further if the pictures are inadequate to show crucial information, which they frequently are.

There are a lot of people with more dollars than sense that participate in these auctions, or simply so rich that a few $100 over market value just doesn't matter to them (perhaps I just stated the same thing in two different ways  :)) ).  My approach is to be more of an opportunist, rather than targeting only one item.  I probably win 1 out of 20 or 30 items that I've "watched", since I'm cheap  :))  This works for me since my collecting interests are broad.  These auctions could be really frustrating if you're only targeting one particular type of firearm or a specific lot number. You have to be willing to let an item go, because more often than not they sell way too high, but the bargains do pop up, and that's part of what makes it fun to me.

The descriptions are often wrong, and for some auction houses that is the rule, for others it is the exception.  That can make it fun and entertaining too.  Seeing what horsetrash they include in their descriptions, or the complete misidentifications of the firearm model, or finding a rare mark that they don't mention is part of the fun.  These houses only occasionally respond to questions submitted online and often don't respond to every question you ask.  Keep the queries brief, preferably yes/no answers. If you want more information you can try to call, but call weeks ahead of time before they get extremely busy near auction week.  Even on the phone, it's hit or miss on getting any meaningful or accurate information. For the most part, I study the pictures and assume the descriptions are inaccurate until I convince myself otherwise.

Finally, you have to be really patient.  Items often don't ship until 2-4 weeks after payment is received.  Some add handling fees (read the "additional terms" beforehand) and the small houses may not have an FFL, so they use an FFL for shipping adding additional expense (I've flagged those as not participating again). Some even use a shipper for militaria and other items, which leads to higher shipping and handling fees (avoid North American Auction Co. in Bozeman, MT for that reason). Total shipping & handling expenses are often 25-50% higher than a GB auction (where people are more likely to eat a bit of the shipping and all of the packaging materials expense), so that's another consideration in your max bid calculation. I usually buy more than one firearm at an auction in order to combine the shipping and get the per rifle shipping fee down into the reasonable range.

In short, these types of larger auction house type of online auctions are not for the unprepared, impatient or completely risk averse bidder.  Of course Gun Broker and other private seller offline or online auctions/transactions have their own inherent risks, so these big auctions simply have some risks in common with GB, some that are different, and are missing some risks that you take with a private seller purchase."

I was going to bid on a couple of guns at one auction, really determined to get them.
Forgot about the auction until it was almost over and ended up with 2 sks pouches and a gun lock lot that i placed a $5 bid on because they could just pack it with the rifle, right?

Needless to say, wont do that again.  Most expensive pouches ever.

I will just leave this right here.  I have never ever paid more than $500 shipped for an SKS regardless if it was Russian, Chinese, Romanian, Yugo, or what ever.   ;)
