Well....I done did it again. First was a Type 84, now this, a SKS NR. :o I know your thinking.... BAH....it's a commercial. So what, realistically, it's not like it's going to drop in value any time soon. thumb1 Besides.....pickens is slim around here unless one likes......black plastic ::) It came with the Chinese marked leather tab sling and the 30rd mag, I'll chuck that in the box with the rest and might find a correct 5 rounder or maybe even a tanker mag for it. :) And it even says SKS NR...Not "M" or "Sporter" or "D".... thumb1
Whats NR stand for.....no really knows.. my best guess, think1 maybe New Rifle, least thats my opinion, maybe it's a new production, not just a scrubbed, modified and remarked rifle like most. There are no Factory stamps, just "Made in China By Norinco". It is stamped with the serial prefix of 94, so it's one of the last in the line of commercial SKSs that were imported before that guy with the blue dress wearing intern banned them. It looks to have maybe the cast rear sight base, gas block and front sight base, the cleaning rod holder looks like a highly modified bayonet lug, like it started it's early life as a lug and it went a total opposite direction, and it holds tight, there is no rattle from the rod. It has the normal pinned shiny boring chrome bore, thats 16.5 inch, and the shortened gas system, the piston and tube are not normal length for an SKS. There are a few other little things different I've found I may document as the weather gets better, hopefully. Everyone says the stock is kind of awkward, but after owning a PSL for so long, I don't notice it, it's alot like a PSL, that's half the length and weight to me, but has an inch or two longer pull. The one real oddity it the stock nose, it's...very square, wide and flat unlike a normal SKS stock.
Yeah.....guess I'll keep it thumb1

Naw man... half a mile from a dairy farm, next to the flower shop with the Fed Ex place behind it..and it has never assaulted anyone, it was sittin there among a bunch a hunting rifles, the .444 Marlin terrified it when it shook it's lever at it, it was skeered and fearing for it's little life. It is just a mundane post ban SKS with a high cap magazine, perfectly legal, no wait, 1 I.D., a 4473 followed by cash and carry....Wait...ok, well it did assault my piggy bank but... thats it. thumb1
They.....even forgot to install the bayonet :o
Besides....

I can't remember...are the thumbhole stocks less scary or more scary? ??? rofl
Short barrel, short gas system, light-weighted (no bayonet), not a bad variant. I agree that'd look good with a magazine of 20 rds or less.

Personally I never thought a wood pistol grip was scary.. black plastic grip on the other hand is really terrifying. rofl2 Guess this was the solution, thumbholes, and I guess depending on how one views them.
I was thinking a tanker mag would be proportionate.... seen a hand full of Hungarians floating around I may snag. Hopefully they work with out an issue.
And I had forgot how heavy an Ak mag was, like a brick...... wish they took a Vz58 mag rofl

Nice, 20 rounders (other than new painted South Korean mags) have become a bit scarce thumb1

Dang steel vs. aluminum issue :))
Nice find! Have you noticed that the commercial rifles seem to have smoother triggers? I've owned a couple over the years - SKS Sporter, and SKS 30 - and both seem to have better triggers than any of the military or Public Security rifles that I have.
The Hungarian 20 round mags seem to work good in the SKS 30, locking up nice and tight without any fiddling. Oddly enough, I tried my 20 round Chinese mags from my 86S and they wouldn't lock in properly.
In case you want to keep your streak going...I have a nice SKS 30 up for auction on the GB site right now. Quick detach bayonet and all. It's a beauty! :)
I didn't notice much difference in the triggers :o Actually my best trigger is on a Yugo...but I have been banging and beating the guts out of it for close to 20 years...
And I no longer do GB auctions, account is gone and everything... Sorry :) Learned my lesson, and I have plenty of patience. thumb1. Good luck with the auction. thumb1
Now come... lay the SKS30 in front of me so I can touch it, sniff it, lick it a little.. My patience goes poof fart1 rofl2
:)) You guys are too funny.
Nice get GM. thumb1
My experience has been the stamped trigger groups are usually much smoother than the milled. And all your new production commercial guns are stamped triggers.
Also, the NR came shipped with a 5 round mag ;)
