Title: Deutsche Demokratische Republik Makarov
Post by: Phosphorus32 on October 14, 2016, 10:40:20 PM
Went to the Pasco Gun Show a month ago and there weren't many milsurps.  The 20 or 30 that were present were mostly so over-priced I hesitated to even pick them up. I was about to head out the door when I saw this lonely East German Makarov on a guy's table who was selling mostly coins. The asking price was decent and after my offer of cash I had in my pocket, the price was even better, so it came home with me.  The smoothness and luster of the deep black bluing on this pistol is remarkable. Rugged, simple blowback design.

I love the way it shoots. Typical low profile, minimal snag, ComBloc sights, but I can acquire a good sight picture fairly easily.  It feels great in my hand, recoil is soft, and I can actually shoot it well  :)

Slick man  thumb1 Very nice. I have a NVA stamped East German holster just begging for 1 of these puppies. A CZ50 is keeping it warm at night but really need to correct that with a Mak.

I said I wouldn't get started on maks but since a couple of FEG PA-63's have found their way to me...I can no longer use the " don't need to start another caliber" argument  rofl

( we all know I have no milsurp will power to speak of, so its just a matter of if/when these will start piling up. Would love to start on a gorgeous EG like you have there Phos  thumb1)

There you go man. In fact, you now need to make stocking that 9x18 ammo worthwhile by having more firearms in that caliber to utilize your supply and keep it fresh  thumb1  You're welcome  whew1

MMMmmmm...Mak-a-Rov drool2 drool2

Just an odd question.... are the grips and/or mags between the E-German and Bulgarian interchangeable, I have a Bulgarian w/several mags, if'en one of these, say, just happened across my path, could I swap the mags between the two.

Yup, mags are interchangeable.

The Russians are pricey and harder to come by than either the DDRs or the very plentiful, still imported, Bulgarians...and then there's the unobtainium, Chinese Type 59.

I thought I was getting ahead of the game when I found a "Makarov looking" mag in a parts bin at 1 of my LGS. I've learned over the years that just because you don't have a certain milsurp "yet" doesn't mean you pass on stuff when you find it  rofl Well....after a lil research....looks like I'll be on the lookout for a Polish Wanad  :))

drool2 Type 59 drool2 That has become a personal goal of mine. I'll come across 1 one day.

I have seen the IJ-70 float around quite a bit...but, it's more the commercial version, like a Cz-83. Been tempted to get one, but it was actually easy to resist, everyone of them so far has been in .380, not 9x18.

Look at the 'lil milsurp crack whore go banana time......a Type 59 :o and a Wanad. rofl2  The Wanad is a neat gun with a really cool name, just beware, it shares nothing in common with any other Makarov pistols, short of the caliber. I'd buy another  :) ...I like the name, then I could do the plural version of it rofl2
I would strongly suggest maybe taking an extra pair of bloomers with you if you manage to locate a Type 59. If the act of finding one doesn't make you sheet down both legs and fill your boots :o , the price will I bet rofl2

Yeah, the IJ-70 with the VRA skirting adjustable rear sights are the commercial variants. The Russian military/police surplus PMs are pricey.

Okay, I have a DDR PM, so to complete the true Makarovs I need:
1. Bulgarian PM, $
2. USSR PM, $$$
3. Chinese Type 59, $$$$$$

I have a Polish P-64, so to complete those chambered in 9x18mm I need:
4. Polish P-83 Wanad, $
5. Hungarian FEG PA-63, $

Well, I have plenty left to collect  thumb1 Dang, I should get a Bulgarian before the good ones stop showing up... think1  pullhair1  chuckles1

And why did you leave the Cz-82 out?  drool2

Whoa  :o  ....a double enable..a two'fer....one enable deserves one in return, see above, Mr. your welcome :) thumb1 a Wanad chuckles1 and Bulgarian want.. thumb1

5. Hungarian FEG PA-63, $

The German Pistole M was made from 1957 to 1965, but '59 was the first nearly full year of production. This one is from 1960, when about 70,000 were produced. It's only a year older than its current owner.  :)

The P-83 went in to service in 1983, they replaced the P-64, the example I have is a '89. They can still be found in some limited use around Poland, usually by police forces. Bulgaria went 70-97 in production, mine is a '83.

Those are so nice ! I just cringe when I see the really nice Bulgi's that have come out this past year. I got a couple P64's and just love them. A 67 and a 72.  One time I was at a gun shop in Sac and I saw this sandwich bag under the glass where the milsurp pistols were and there were 6 mags in it that looked like P64 mags.. So I asked the guy if they were for sale.I Didnt ask what they fit as they had P64's on the shelf.. The guy went and asked his boss and came back and said 60.00 for all.. I said OK.. Thats my Ca, legal milsurp story  :)

Those are some fine pistols gentleman.. I think GM has enough milsurp 9x18 caliber pistolies to share with his old board buddy  thumb1

Share.. nea1 wait, share, ok, well alrighty then rofl2

Since P32 missed'em in his list.. Cz82s.. 56 in serial apart. I think these are legal in Ca w/the 10rd mag option, if I remember right.. hint hint ;) DC
Also, they are C&R....where the Wanad isn't.

I just uploaded these pics I think I saved them from the Mosin site a few years ago so you probably remember.. What a shame
