Title: Would like info on an M59 (standard)
Post by: montigre on August 01, 2016, 10:15:08 AM
Would someone please check the data base for me for a Yugo M59 with the SN PA 2165?  I think the rifle has been through 2 refurbs, but all of the easily observable numbers still match (receiver, mag cover, receiver cover, barrel, bolt assy) except for the stock which has been x'd out and renumbered twice.  I'd appreciate any info/history possible as the owner is asking a minor fortune for it.  Thanks.

Definitely sounds like a ruskie with the P.  If it was an "RA", it could be a Romy.  The XX'd out stock is very Russian though, Romys typically sanded theirs or simply left the old number and restamped w/o the XX's.  Need a shot of the receiver and info from the top of the receiver cover to tell you any more than that...

As for the seller asking a minor fortune, Russians typically command higher prices than other guns.  That said, anything with and XX'd stock should sit at or below $500 IMO.  They are not exactly rare.

It may actually be a Rommy.  I remembered the prefix as being RA, but was not sure, so I called the shop this morning and the owner stated it was PA.  The wood did not look Russian and the store tag had it labeled as an M59 w/ 20" barrel.  I do not recall seeing any of the usual Russian markings on the gun, but by the same token, I also do not recall seeing Zastava engraved on it anywhere either.

I had just gone to that shop (out of state) to pick up some accessories for my evil black rifle and happened to see it hanging on the wall and was not sure what I was looking at.  Since I had never been to that shop before, I did not feel comfortable whipping out my camera to take a bunch of unsolicited pics unless I was interested in possible purchasing it.  That was not the case as I am rolling the dice on a bit of a gamble and do not have extra gun $$ to play with right now...lol!
