Title: /326\
Post by: Phosphorus32 on April 07, 2016, 09:57:56 PM
Barrel Lug: Short, threaded
Battle Sight on RSL: 3
Bayonet Type: Spike
Bayonet Lug: Late Non-Cut
Bolt Carrier: Late Non-Cut
Gas Tube: Early Late 2 Piece
Gas Block: Early Milled
Receiver Cover Takedown: Normal
Rear Sight Block: Mid Milled. It actually looks like a cross between the mid and late, as it has the scalloped rear, and wide chamfer on the bottom.
Serial Number Format: 7 Digits, Y,YXX,XXX
S/N on Components: Last 5 digits
S/N on Stock: Last 5 digits, 1 leading zero, Large Font (8mm/0.315"; actually in between the medium and large font dimensions as defined in the survey)
Stock Swivel: Side
Trigger Group Type: Late Stamped

Notes: I won this at a Sullivan Auctioneers (Hamilton, IL) auction held on February 12, 2016. It was missing a bayonet, so I bought one from Desert Fox Sales and installed it. The reddish-brown semi-opaque stain paint appears original based on the appearance of the stock SN and small cartouches.

That's a beauty Jon, very nice!  thumb1

Is the finish on the stock a stain, or is it more a paint?  I've always wondered what the Chinese used when it comes to this reddish brown finish on the later guns...

Thanks!  :)  My first spike bayonet Type 56 and my latest one after my pair of F letter series carbines.

It's either a thickly applied semi-opaque stain (like a deck coating), or a thinly applied paint, the grain shows through in most areas of the stock. I guess I'd actually lean toward the latter. On the hand guard I don't see any grain.  It's the least impressive part of the finishing on this rifle.  The bluing is really a nice deep black and all the other components are well done.  The gray phosphated bolt and bolt carrier are unusual.

Awesome....  I transferred the info to the proper arsenal page.  Perhaps RM can work his thumbnail magic.

Yup, I'll get the photos done up this weekend.  I've been saving all the ones for the component configuration section & FAQs/HowTos/Guides to the official SKS-Files account on Photobucket so we can make certain they will always be available.  One of the things that rots me the most is when an old post becomes useless because the photos go away when a Photobucket account goes dormant and gets deleted due to inactivity.

Just like Jim's /906\, I got this one entered into the /326\ group with the photographs watermarked, attributed, S/N scrubbed, & hosted in thumbnail format from the official SKS-Files photobucket account.  Thanks again for the entry Jon!  thumb1

Thanks RM!  You even got the photos turned around in the correct orientation  :))  Love the thumbnails. So I guess the blue or pink icons (can't tell what they are) are the indicators that a slot has been populated
