Counterboring is not a bad thing thumb1, to me it's a great thing, means a nice new crown is present and the worn crappy muzzle is fixed. Alot of people look at it like a mortal sin to buy a counterbored rifle, but it's actually a good thing. My '27 Finnish Dragoon is counterboard, and it shoots great. Actually, given what was done too it, it doesn't look too terrible, I probably wouldn't mess with it much, it is a ex-Dragoon. They sometimes have a slight premium over a standard M91/30.
All I think I'm going to do is detail it.....kill the minor corrosion......and maybe put it in a laminate stock.....I found some early Dragoon collars for it as well.....(and yeah....I know the laminate won't be correct....but she's so pretty...lol)
As far as the counter bore......it just goes along with the rest of the barrel condition.....which is pretty nice considering its age. Someone has done some trigger work too it......I've pulled Mosin triggers that had 10 seconds of cream......this one is like right now.....surprising.
Very nice save! thumb1 I don't think putting it in a laminate stock would be bad, since it's a refurb anyhow. Ought to be a really nice shooting ex-Dragoon :)
I love the look of that stock. But if I had to strip or deshallack or otherwise unbubba a K98 stock I'd still never be able to look at the gun with loving eyes, knowing the monstrosity that it had once been. So I get your desire to replace it.
The rifle in the 'before' part looks just like the racks of Mosins I have to see at every gun show around here. There's a guy who offers Cerakote services and he seems to specialize in Mosins. He has racks of his "work" for sale- 91/30 after 91/30 of every color in the rainbow. Sometimes he even wraps them with that crap you had to deal with. You haven't experienced life until one of your belligerent friends, handling a purple Mosin Nagant, calls the seller an idiot jaygoff destroyer of historic relics.

Laugh! You sure that wasn't you who actually did that and not your 'friend' Kevin? chuckles1

Laminate is fat and heavy as hell... I'd find a nice worn pre-war stock for it.
I do love the SOVIET lettering on the Izhevsks!
I like the stock... Maybe blend out with alcohol and add a coat of red shellac. Done
Plywood :o. On a classic cry1. Might as well use Formica fart1 rofl2.
Ya cant see them little finish scratches looking down the sights at that evil sheet of paper thats flapping down range going, nanny nanny, boo boo :P you cant hit me thumb1 chuckles1
No matter what I do...I'll hold onto the stock it came with.....and of course....when the previous owner put the tape on it...he cut the tape out in place......so there are cut marks all over the place......sighhhhh.
This one is on the way....after i get the metal cleaned up om the rifle and detailed....it should look pretty sharp.....I love the laminate stocks!!

Oh RM your just jelli ::), of course they made sheets that large, in Soviet Russia everything is larger. chuckles1 Then they also made the smaller sheets for smaller projects, these were used in the post war Russian Midget Racing Canoe series down the Volga after the spring thaw, it's kinda like Commie NASCAR, only on the water. Not only did they have to paddle the canoe, they would fire said paddle at hiding Nazi solders on the river bank :P rofl2 stroke, stroke, boom, dammit Jim, the muzzle blast spilled my vodka cry1, stroke Besplode
The "RM"RC series, get it, RM.... rofl2 rofl2 chuckles1 rofl2 Besplode
