(Yugo 59/66) What say ye?

I hate to say it couldn't have been done in the field, so I guess my call would be if it was, it was issued to someone who didn't spend a lot of time under fire. It looks pretty good to me, it would be interesting to know how much time went into it. thumb1
Could be... But could also not be. Likely impossible to ever tell. :-\

Yeah, that's pretty much what I was thinking. ::)
I'm tempted to buy it, though.
It is badass looking. :)
Serbian Crest, very nice work 8) It doesn't exactly look fresh. Certainly possible that a soldier (woodcarver) in the Serbian Army or some militia member, did it after the break up of Yugoslavia, but as others have said, who knows for sure. Soldiers do end up with time on their hands.
I'd be tempted to buy it too.
I have also met alot of Serb truck drivers out on the road. I often pick their brains about serb guns and the breakup etc. First thing I notice is they actually learn the English language and pay taxes. Secondly I learn most bought a yugo sks or AK when they became a citizen.
It is certainly a nice carving. Someone obviously put quite a bit of time into it and had a bit of talent to boot! I don't think the stateside vs. back in the former Yugoslavia is a big deal, the gun has been 'bubba'd' (albeit tastefully) with trench art and is what it is. If you can get it for as much or only a bit of a premium over an equal condition M59/66, I think I'd jump at it. It's not something you see everyday and I think it will command a price premium over any run-of-the-mill M59/66 later on should you choose to flip it.
Yeah, I'd probably pay a small premium regardless of the unproven provenance. Most "trench art" is really trench scratching (which I actually still like). This is actually deserving of the term trench art thumb1
Is it a complete carbine for sale or just the stock? What's the seller's story?
That is some incredible work!

It's a complete, matching gun in excellent condition judging from the pics. I haven't asked the seller about the story, but he says it's trench art.

That's neat, I have seen some Yugo stocks for sale on ebay and such that had trench art. Some I have wondered if they were done state side or not. With it being the complete gun I wonder which batch it was imported in. Recent or years past.
There is that nick in the shield that could be an indicator that it has seen some action since the carving, although it could have been added to give that impression. I certainly wouldn't kick her out of the collection if it wasn't real trench art, it is a very nice carving regardless.

Looks to be an older CAI import.
Recent imports came from Slovenia. Slovenia split from Serbia early on.... I dont see why a Slovenian would be proud of anything Serbian.
looks fairly new, wood aging is too different from the rest. :o

Dunno-the cut away areas would be lighter because of being into the substrate of the oil finish IMO.
