I've owned a few of these rifles over the years and thought I'd post a couple nice ones that I have. Feel free to add photos of your Public Security Force rifles and any interesting details about them.
This one is made by [0141], has a threaded barrel, and stamped trigger housing.

This one is made at /016\ /416\. It has a much lighter yellow stock, a pinned barrel, and milled trigger housing. Different mark on the rear sight, too: "3" instead of "D".

No problem!
Do you have a pic of that '016' stamp out of the stock? Most agree its actually /416\ because of a line extending downward.
Both are beauties, very nice! thumb1
I especially like the full 22 mil S/N on the stock of the [0141]. Not a common trait at all. clap1
Yeah, that is dif...
Is it odd that the later gun has threaded barrel and the earlier has the pinned?
Oh, and gorgeous rifles!
Nope, different arsenals followed different schedules with different hardware.
One of these days I'm going to start a thread in the S/N tracking section that shows each arsenal, each prefix/year, and the feature set/feature progression complete with photo documentation. It'll be really good to compile that data into one easy to find place...
Not to me it isn't... Dif arsenals started using the pinned barrels at dif times or not at all. Dif arsenal, dif arsenal.
Dang you RM!!!! :P

Laff one of the few times I beat you to a post! :)
It would be cool to have a thread with all known guns from any particular /XX\ arsenal with all known feature sets and the progression from year to year no? Maybe even have a set of pages on the SKSGuide that people can go to in order to see how their 22 mil [0141] stacks up to a known set of guns. Would really help everyone to figure out what features are original and which ones might be refurb specific.
Sure, but holy cow are you talking about alot of work. Maybe a simple description next to each in the non 26 serial thread etc?
A Public Security with a twist. Same /416\. '3' stamped sight, milled trigger guard, pinned barrel, the twist is, while it is the same light yellow finished stock, it has a bottom sling hanger and it's sterile, no stock serial stamp. I can't confirm if it was imported like this or it was done here, but it came from the original buyer, he claimed the only alterations he did, was the swapping of the mag release lever bat1, he was running duckbills in it. Luckily, he kept the original box mag, but the factory release lever was lost to the sands of time.

Yeah. I'll break it up. One arsenal stamp at a time, spread it out over weeks and I could have it done in a few months I bet. I'll try a test post with the format and see how it turns out. If it's not worth the effort, there are many other things to concentrate time on (Russian SKSGuide, Russian S/N registry, Russian Survey...then substitute Albanian/Romanian/Yugoslavian & rinse and repeat. chuckles1) Man we got lots to do around here! thumb1
GM, I love the pic of the arsenal stamp on this one. Clear and big. I think I'm using it on the SKS Survey actually. I wish all photos of arsenal stamps were clear like this one...it would make ID'ing some of these guns much easier. thumb1

Sorry it's not very clear but I'm pretty certain it's /016\.

I noticed that too, and that it has a cast gas block on a threaded barrel. I only recall seeing those on pinned varieties.
Mine looks just like Greasemonkey's. Is that /016\ or /416\?
Thanks again jjj... page updated. thumb1

We came to the conclusion that it's a /416\. If you look really closely at GMs photo, you can see the tail of the 4 is definitely there. The connecting line at the bottom of the 4, 1, & 6 is the key here. From the later (and pretty clear 4's) /416\ AKs we've seen, this feature is maintained throughout the series. The tail in these is not always readily apparent, but it's there. thumb1
Thanks for the info! I always thought it was 016, partially because I had read that it was only /26\, /016\, and [0141] that produced the Police rifles. So which arsenals produced them - /26\, /416\, and [0141]?
Did you see my link?
The /26\ is on the /26\ page...
Yes, but I think it said that the 3 factories were /016\, /26\, and [0141], which can't be correct if Greasemonkey and I have /416\ examples.
Looks like there are [0140] and [0144] examples, too, but I don't see anything about the /416\.
PUBLIC SECURITY /416\, [0140], [0141], [0144], /26\
I have 016 in the serial range area still... Have to change it.
I thought I'd link this quote from member
fenceline about the KFS "Letter of Authenticity" confirming it IS /416\, in case this thread is used for research purposes.
Quote from: fenceline on February 25, 2016, 09:03:00 PM
My Certificate of Authenticity from Keng's Firearms Specialty Inc has just arrived regarding my 016/416 Arsenal stamped, PS stamped Type 56 SKS.
It says...
"This certificate acknowledges that the Poly Technologies, Inc. SKS with Serial Number 180383## was manufactured by State Arsenal 416 in Jing-AN, China. It was imported by Keng's Firearms Specialty, Inc. on October 13, 1987 and was sold on December 29, 1987."
So there it is.
And here is the close up of the Arsenal stamp...
