Title: What to do, what to do
Post by: Greatguns on August 19, 2015, 12:58:01 AM
Okay, I picked up an SKS with extra parts and accessories yesterday understanding this was going to be a hodge-podge rifle for me to play with. Upon looking at it and then after I got it home and thoroughly went through everything and put all the original pieces back together I realized that what I bought is a K-Sports 20" barrel Hunter all matching and all present and correct from import. Complete with the West Coast scope mount rail and all. Now I am left wondering what to do with it. Sorry no pics for now, but maybe I can get some up tomorrow. It is a /156\ 16xxxxx SN with a P after the SN. Stock has a few dings in it but otherwise a very clean rifle. Wondering if I should find a real collector to give it a good home for or just proceed with my original plans or maybe modify my plans so as not to permanently molest the rifle.

Maybe I should create a mount to work with the rail huh? Wonder what that would involve?

I'd do this.

I've got no great love for a KSI hunter, but there is something to be said in leaving a firearm as-is. If anything, I think generating a scope mount to fit the west coast rail (which not many people do) would be much more satisfying than a simple tacticool job (which everyone seems to be willing and able to do).

Either way, be sure to let us know how she turns out!  thumb1

I'm a little on the fence with this one. I see K-sports Hunters everywhere, and since there is no mount that fits that rail, I just don't see the appeal in wanting one.

However, the collector side of me agrees with RM...I don't like to see special models bubba'd up.

I would love to see you make a mount that fits it. Heck, you could probably make a bunch and sell them to other K-hunter owners :)

Is that a hint PS? LOL.

BTW, At least for the moment, for your viewing pleasure, I put it back to original so I could take some pics for you all.
First, a little more about the rifle. When I agreed to buy it I was of the understanding that it was just a bubba'd rifle with 'some extra parts'. Turned out to be this Hunter with a Combat Exchange stock(unfortunately cut for the west coast rail), NOS steel railed receiver cover(lower sitting rail than the newer ones), Yugo cleaning rod, Russian Tula receiver cover(1954r dated), What I believe to be an unmarked USA 30rnd mag(fit finish and function lend to that anyway) 1 stripper clip, 27rnds of ammo and 16 rnds of EG practic ammo(plastic 46gr bullets).

I did do some measurements on the rail. It is pretty close to a standard dovetail 12mm wide with a 45 degree wedge and 84mm long and protruding 4mm from the receiver.

Anyway, here's some pics. Gas piston is electro stenciled as well, but I didn't want to take the tube back off to take the pic. Tube is unmarked.

No even to put a cheese grater HG on it? Does my wood HG match enough for what you are looking for? :)) :))
I imagine it is probably too red though.

I think a cheese grater would look great on there :)

I dig the star marked stocks on the /156\s.  thumb1

At the end of the day it's just another Chinese I guess. It would look nice in a cheese grater.

Challenge accepted, I think I may have figured something out for this. Going to start a new poll thread on it.
