Title: Are rounds ejecting forward normal ?
Post by: KILLDOZER on August 11, 2015, 08:47:22 AM
I've noticed this particular rifle sends rounds out to about the 2:00 position (and maybe even between the 1:00 and 2:00 position). They're ejecting fairly consistently, and forcefully, but they're kicking out nearly level (elevated a little, but not much), and WAY forward of where I've ever seen another weapon eject.
I stumbled onto an old thread that briefly discussed this, with a couple theories following, but info was sparce, and a subsequent internet search came up with nothing.
This doesn't seem to be any serious issue, I just thought it odd, and figured it couldn't hurt to ask, and see what a "normal' ejection pattern was for most folks.

KD I dont think there is such a thing as a "normal" pattern for these critters, we have four of them and none are the same! They throw cases all over the map.

+1.

If it spits it out, I wouldn't worry about it.   But throwing forward, I would tend to think its just barely being pealed off the boltface prior to the bolts travel back forward and the bolt is throwing it forward.

You should lock it down in front of a high speed camera and observe the slow motion footage.   :)

One of ours throws the case almost directly to the front, another is almost 3 o'clock...some high, some low. One is even pitching them out about 20-25 feet.

As Loose}{Cannon says, as long as it's feeding/ejecting just keep squeezing the trigger!

Mine are all over the place too...on an average shooting session, I will take three or four SKSs by the time I am done I have to scan the whole perimeter around me.  Some of mine will eject in a different direction from one shot to the next, likely due to the alternating sides of the magazine feeding the next staggered round.

One thing that is very handy is a cheese grater hand guard with the built in rail/shell deflector....I don't believe they are made anymore but they pop up on auction sites occasionally...they really tighten up your brass's groups.  chuckles1

I have them on two of mine, and it really helps with clean up.  The deflectors that clip under your rear sight leaf suck because they throw off your sights, the ones that attach to scope mounts are often troublesome to match up with your particular mount...the hand guard mounted ones seem to be the best option. They are unobtrusive to the function of the gun...look fairly cool, and really can make your life easier if you shoot outside of a range environment....and don't like leaving a mess.  I shoot in unofficial range 'areas'...often I find myself distracted trying to pay attention to where the last round ejected...just so I can find it. If yours end up in a six foot circumference in a consistent location, consider yourself lucky

The also have the side effect at certain times of day to shade your rear sight, which seems to help my eyes a tad.

I did truly LMAO during that video...but, it is exactly why there is a Kalifornistan.  Too many cameras...too many dip****s with guns, and cameras.
