Title: Harrington & Richardson Model 165 "Leatherneck"
Post by: SKhiSm 59-66A1 on June 16, 2015, 10:06:50 PM
I had semi-auto .22 rifle on my list of things to get, and when LC posted his Model 65 Reising in Milsurp Rimfire I liked it right away. So after getting beat out a time or two, I recently managed to knock down this Model 165. I'm not entirely certain about differences between the two models, but H & R transitioned to the 165 after the war. I got some compliments on the rifle at the FFL, I think I'm going to love it.

The peep sight disc is a replacement, the sling is by Swiss Craft and didn't come with the rifle. I chose it because it was real similar to like rifles that had Boyt slings and it seemed like it was close to period correct. Also made in Worcester, Mass. as was the rifle, fwiw.

I haven't shot it yet, but it's coming with us this weekend for sure. As near as I can tell, and the guys at the FFL agreed, it looks like it's been used very little if at all. The mag release is canted just a bit, and the safety switch has a lot of play when in fire position, but there's hardly any wear on it anywhere. I think I could correct those two minor issues if needed.

I'm starting to see a sheen in the stock that I had not seen before...  Think its the original finish?

I believe so, in your hands it has a fairly dull and dry oil finished look to it. But I agree in the pics it had some sheen to it here and there. I'll try to get some pics with better lighting.
