Keep shooting.com had repop units that were cast metal a few years ago, or its off a commercial chinese gun like the M, or it was scrubbed of its # by someone.  Those are about the only ways I can think of for it to be not numbered.

What would be the legality or even morality of restamping it?

I don't think there's any legality to it....a trigger group is not a key part of a gun like a receiver. Moral wise.... i know I want to buy something that's numbers matching....I'd be pretty pissed if I found out it was force matched.

Pop the trigger assy out and post a few pics. Like LC said, some of the new production guns like the M were not stamped....but the M trigger group does have an identifying feature (stamped slots).

Photos would definitely help.

You either have a milled or a stamped group (or cast, or a special stamped group out of an AK magazine SKS).

Milled:

Stamped:

That will at least get us close to seeing what you've got.

I personally wouldn't force match what you've got. If anything you could get top dollar for it from someone restoring a bubba that doesn't want a mismatched trigger group.

By the way, welcome to the boards!  thumb1

My phone wont let me post multi pics,so ill have to make multi posts.this first one looks like maybe it has been scrubbed.I painted the rifle because someone before me tried to polish it or something. It was real ugly!
