My gunsmith special 59/66 had a cracked stock that was an easy repair. The barrel is pitted but there is still plenty of rifling. The first time I took it to the range it failed to cycle adequately, so I did the wire in the gas valve groove trick. Took it out today and put 10 rounds through it...cycled great. Feeling quite pleased with myself, I loaded another stripper clip and fired once followed by the stove pipe sound...

Yeah, so any recommendations for stuck case removal and/or particular brands of BSE's?
Midway has a 7.62x39 broken shell extractor in stock. I like learning new things thumb1

I'm completely inexperienced with this. It's my first blown primer and my first case head separation in one fell swoop. What would you suggest I use to catch the lip of the empty case to start forcing it out? It sounded like a "soft" shot, but the bullet left the barrel, thankfully, and I didn't feel any blowback in my face!
Maybe a dowel? lol idk, take my advice lightly, I have yet to experience this.

Shell extracting device is likely the way to go.

Found a BSE on Amazon. Since I pay for Amazon Prime I might as well get it there and get my free 2 day shipping.
BTW, it was Wolf...not that I've ever had any trouble with their ammo before in any of my other SKS's.
Home remedy.. 3/8 x16 tap, an extension long enough to thread the tap into the case. Wooden dowell long enough to reach down the bore and drive out the tap.

Unfortunately, I'm not well equipped in the tap and die department (i.e., I have none). The $10 broken shell extractor should be here soon. I'll see how it does.

I have never seriously considered a BSE....this kind of changes my mind a little.
Well, that was easy enough to remove. $10 broken shell extractor, insert in the chamber, cinch it up snug, spray some CLP down the muzzle, let sit 10', drop a 1/4" dowel down the bore, tap a few times, voila!

Pretty kool Jon! I'd never actually seen an extractor being used. So now that it's out, what do you think caused the problem? Burr in the chamber maybe? The side of that case has a few gouges that I can see...

I would be inspecting the chamber and spinning a brass brush in thar.... maybe smooth out the chamber face.

Yes, I'll be inspecting to see if I can find an obvious burr. Thanks for the tips, I did order a couple of new chamber brushes with the extractor, so that'll be the next step after the visual and tactile inspection (if I can get my pinky finger in there). I'd really rather not have another one of these "events".
Phosphorus thanks for the write-up and photos. It changes my mind about using the "field expedient" method I mentioned above...I'm going to order one of those also!
