Title: The one that followed me home today!
Post by: John Galt on April 09, 2015, 05:58:33 PM
I got a nothing special sks today.  Pinned barrel,  /016\, KFS ALT GA on the receiver, milled fcg, bubba got the stock off and put it in a plastic stock with a plastic bipod on the bayolug.  Metal is very nice and it came with a box (20rds) of ammo and a soft gun case for $325.

After I got the stock off I noticed two Chinese characters stamped on the right side of the receiver.  I remember reading about some of these stamps and will be digging around for some info on their meaning.

Here are two pics of the receiver.

I think it is the mark of the Chinese Security Force Rifles.

Yup, you got it John.  Public security markings on the right side of the receiver:

公安 = gōng ān.  Translates to: "Security Forces"

Pretty nice metal like you said.  I think I even still see tons of grease in the trigger mechanism of your first photo.  What are your plans with this one?

I was going to sell it, but now I may keep it.  If I keep it, I will get a chu stock to match the hand guard, a spike, and sling.  The only thing I'm bummed about is the receiver cover is not matching.  I have been trying to figure out if the "correct" stock would have a bottom or side sling point.

Pretty neat.

Should be a side as far as I can tell.

Matching "1.6" mil /016\:

Matching "1.7" mil /016\:

"18" mil /016\: (can't tell if it's the matching stock but it's definitely a side swivel)

Thanks for the fine examples!  If you were in my shoes, what would you do with this rifle?  Sell as is, un-bubba and sell, or un-bubba and keep?   Is this a keeper for the safe or a shooter?  It does seem to have a lot of cosmoline in it.  Piston is very clean and gas tube is full of stuff (cosmo?) but I can't see bubba switching a stock and not shooting it.

Cool.. a PS rifle.   Hard to say what I would do with it if it were mine.  Guys looking for a PS want all matching including the stock.  Would make a decent hole-filler with an un numbered stock and correct bayo though.   thumb1

That was my plan…if I keep it!  The search for a light color, side sling chu stock begins!!!!

Thanks!

As I was reading this, I was getting ready to ask you about the right side of the receiver.  rofl

I would definitely Keep it ( seeing as I have an 18 mill /016\ very close in s/n to yours so I may be partial) As far as I've found when researching these fine examples...KFS was the only importer of these ( a few might have slipped in here and there though) and while not uber-rare they are uncommon. A few different numbers of these in country have been thrown around, but it seems like less than 3000 of these were imported in by KFS.

I'm under the impression that this were exclusively made for the Public Security forces. ( My opinion here from what I've seen) Most out there look the same and fall within 18 mill 1.8 mill, 1.7 mill and a few 17 mill. So yes for sure on the side swivel stock.

Trying to remember if I've seen or just read about a few oddballs that are marked PS. Old surplus that was repurposed for PS. But most are like yours and mine.

Even not matching , get it looking like it should and it will be a very nice addition to your collection. IMHO they are very well made and great shooters as well. Congrats man  thumb1

Thanks for the info guys.  I had a little  time tonight to mess with it.  The trigger on this rifle seems very smooth!  Long pull but very smooth.

I will post pics of the finished product.

Finished the security forces sks!  Seems like a very nice example.  eBay'ed a stock that was really ugly, very dark stain.  Citristripped 3 times, wood bleached heavily 2 times, amber shellac was the process that very nearly matched the original hand guard.  Overall, I am very happy with the stock.

Very nice job on that stock! Your Security Forces rifle looks great! Our rifles are only 1527 digits apart in production. Congrats on the acquisition and the fine job of returning it to original configuration, JG!

I know this is a dumb question, but did the Seller have any leads as to the whereabouts of the original SN'd Stock and Receiver Cover?

Has anyone found any file pics of the correct sling for these SF rifles? I know several will fit, just wondering if they had a specific one designated for the SF?

Yeah that does look really nice and for a good price to.
I'm kind of jealous.  :)

How much you think that been shot? I'm thinking not much
sense it was a security forces firearm.

jda70,

Hard to say how much it was shot.  There was evidence that it was shot, but it seems like it was well taken care of.
