Franken-SK-AK
« on: February 01, 2021, 04:26:34 PM »
Was at an auction on Saturday and took photos of this thing on a prior preview day. Hammer price was $950. It felt like it weighs about 10-12 lbs.  :))

Here are photos I took. I did not bid on it. Although I thought it was somewhat cool but then thought what's the point.

It's an Arsenal 26 11 million serial with a robust receiver around the SKS receiver and they kept the gas system intact. The dust cover was modified and the mag well and release also. Obviously being an under-folder the furniture was custom.

That looks like something XTriggerman would come up with. Although I must say, his FAL-SKS Hybrid is way above that thing in the aesthetics department
My Avatar is a pic of the real "Ghost" SKS in honor of xxxsks(joe). It is a pic of a fully decked out SKS in Capco hunter's kit. This was mine, the only other pic I had ever seen of one was Joe's.

Someone put a good many hours into that thing.  If cheap enough I would have bought it just for the conversational value.  It's one of those ones that makes gun people take a double take because it looks 'off' no matter how long they look at it, but it's not readily apparent what the issue actually is...

At first glance I thought it was just a milled AK, then I started noticing things. :o rofl

For an AK, she ain't to bad looking. And I dislike AK's.

That's pretty much exactly how I feel about it.
A lot of work went into this, and I think its kind of rad that someone did it. It would be nice to see the internals.

Well, before this goes any further afield, I'll say that I like it.
I appreciate the amount of work that went into it.

I also wonder it this was a one-off, or some type of a kit. If it was a kit, I'd buy one.

Larry, my guess it's a one off and the "builder" had some serious machining and metal work skills. Just my opinion nothing to back it up. I didn't ask at the auction.

I just PM'd XTriggerman to see if he knows anything about it.

One-off or kit, yeah, serious skills involved with that.

Thanks for posting it up, Bob.

Sorry, I couldn't resist!

I actually think that's pretty cool craftsmanship, and that someone knew what he was doing. I'm not sure I see the utility, but I'd take that over a dremel/duckbill any day, right?

Thanks for flaging my radar on this one GG!  Yeah, the guy did some hours of head scratching on those details.  My hats off to who ever just to have seen it threw to the end.  All tho, I can't bring my self to see any practical upgrade to the SKS or AK.  There may have been if and thats a big if the shell is light weight aluminum and did a pair of AR push pins for upper/ lower release. He uses the SKS trigger so that pretty much puts it in as a SKS FCG on the inside. Its cute but the MP40 length of the grip to chamber distance is a not so cool back step. Back when I did prototype one offs, you dont put alot of planing into just what the final weight is going to end up as, and then it ends up as a "next time" configuration.  Heck, I still have a block of aircraft aluminum I was going to build a AR styled light weight lower for the SKS.  Building an 8.5 lb SKS odd ball is easy.... build a under 7 lb one and you really got a home run on your hands in the one of bucket list.  Some day, I'll finish the current AR 45 pistol on Grease gun mags I'm farting around with time to time.  Oh, for 950 bucks the guy is asking, clearly..... it was a labor of love.

That looks like one of the Bulgarian milled underfolder receivers from K-Var.
