"Russian SKS 1953 7.62x39" ('53 Izhevsk)
« on: June 01, 2016, 11:33:21 AM »
Well my Monday night GunBroker search of "Russian 1953 SKS" worked well to find the title of this listing  rofl  It was accurate, but he could have said more  ;)

http://www.gunbroker.com/item/560901616

I usually like to wait to post my own pics but I was excited about this light (plus) refurb, even with the strike over SN on the stock and the scrubbed and EP'd bolt and carrier.

Thanks!  Yeah, I couldn't believe a '53 Izhevsk went that low. Missing key words, like "Izhevsk"   doh1, and perhaps a Wednesday morning auction end  ???, contributed to that  dance2

I confess, I have a '54 Izhevsk in the SKS crate/locker too.

Nice find! They've had a few collectible ones on GB the past few months with terrible descriptions. They had a Yugo long barrel and M59 B barrel that went below market.

Thanks!  Agreed; there have been some sleepers lately.  I've had some good luck the last couple of weeks on GB after not buying anything off of the site for many, many months. I think my Romanian SKS was the last one before the VN Type 53 and this Izhevsk SKS.

Thanks man!  It was just one of those things. Try a casual search on GB and find something I had to at least take a shot at.  Lesson learned, it's kind of dangerous to do those "casual searches"  rofl  Sort of like walking into the gun shop just to look around  ;)

It's a nice gun Jon at an excellent price!  I looked in my records to see if I could verify that I could find a '53 ЛH prefixed gun.

While I found several '53's, my results were not quite what I had hoped to find:

Unfortunately, they are *all* '53 Tulas, not Izhevsks.

Not to fret though, your gun is most certainly an Izhevsk, the 4 on the receiver is distinctly Izhevsk and the font has the correct wide aspect ratio.  It's a darn nice looking one too!  thumb1   Hopefully one day an as-issued '53 Izhevsk turns up with this prefix and we can put this one to rest 100%.

Nice snag!

Hey RM,

Yeah, I studied the numbers on the receiver and compared them to those in your Izhevsk numbers thread before I made a bid.  I convinced myself that it was the real deal with the distinctive font for the 4 that Izhevsk used 8)  :)
