Title: Two ends of the spectrum a pre war Belgian HP and very late war Walther PP

Here are two of my latest finds a pre war Belgian made HP from 1935 or 1936 and a Walther PP from 1945.

 The High Power was a vet bring back.  So it had to come from a surrendered Belgian soldier to a German soldier in 1940 when Germany invaded Belgium.  Then to a US soldier from a surrendered German soldier 1945.  The gun has no German proofs only Belgian Circle H (Belgian military acceptance proof) and assorted other Belgian proofs.  It has the type 1 tangent sights, these sights were put on HP's the were supplied originally with a shoulder stock. This gun is slotted for a shoulder stock on the back strap of the grip.

This Walther PP was made in early March 1945.  there are no Walther stamps on the left side of the gun and right side ha the serial number on the slide and frame.  The slide serial is over AC ( the code for Walther ).  Aside from the Eagle over N stamps, there are no other proofs on the gun.  This was a last ditch get it out the door situation in which this gun was made

That's a pair of winners  thumb1

I've always liked the looks of both pistols, and especially the Walther PP  8) The tangent sight is interesting but seems kind of superfluous on the HP. I suppose with the shoulder stock it makes some sense.

P32 the soulder stock attachment on the High Power hand guns was to bridge the gap the rifle an the stand alone pistol.  The US Army did that with the M1 carbine.

That makes sense.  I guess the approach taken with the High Power was around for a long time from the stocked C96 to the stocked artillery luger P08s. In the latter case, the additional feature of the longer barrel was another method for obtaining longer range accuracy.

The LP-08 took the rear sight a step further, the rear tangent sight actually pivots slightly to the left as it is elevated to compensate for the drift imparted to the bullet by the right-hand twist of the bore. My C96 just raises normal and provides no compensation.

Not a good shot but even at this setting it has moved off center some.
