Title: Cheap reloading bench!
Post by: Dannyboy53 on June 15, 2015, 12:40:11 AM
It danged sure wont win any beauty contest, but I didn't build it to be aesthetically pleasing. It's so heavy and sturdy I didn't even have to anchor it when resizing full length rifle cases. Only took a couple of hours using available material (4x4 posts and 3/4 plywood mainly) and a few bucks invested in wood screws! The table top is 6' by 28" and is about 42" tall. I never got around to painting it, just immediately pressed it into service! Even laid-out and drilled the reloading blocks on my drill press from scrap material!

We have reloaded several thousand rounds of .270, .30-30, .357 Mag and .45 ACP, so far it has served us well.

I like it a lot.  Rugged looks, solid build, functional  thumb1

Mine isn't long enough...of course I have a bad habit of cluttering every square inch of horizontal space  rofl  Yours looks neatly maintained.

Greasemonkey I really envy you, living that close to both locations. I visited W & L University and saw the "Recumbent Lee" and I have been to the grave site of Gen Jackson on two occasions. Both were an awesome experience. Natural Bridge was another with the carving "GW" underneath by a young surveyor so many years ago!

He could open a gun museum that would rival the WWII museum in New Orleans!

After I moved to my current location and got the outbuilding cleaned out I was finally able to set up some of my reloading equipment.  I bought an old office desk for the local Habitat Restore for $15,the office chair I got at a local college while I was doing a delivery,it was set to be trashed due to a broken caster socket which I fixed with a tube of JB Weld.  I did purchase a metal rack to store some of my reloading supplies on for $25.

The entertainment center on top of the desk I got for free that somebody had set outside by the road for trash pickup it has a slide out shelf that I set my beam scales on when I weighing out charges but the scales are mostly used to set up my RCBS DUO measure or check what my Lil Dandy rotors are throwing with a given lot of powder.  I still use the same old Lyman press, beam scales and Universal Trimmer I bought when I started reloading over 40 years ago.

My casting equipment and setup is over at my friends house just down the road as he cast as well and has lots more room.

Hmmm..  Bungi cord on the press handle.   Cannon Likey!!

The handle kept falling into the down position, tried to take my knee out a couple times so I added the bungi to fix that problem.
