I see they have spring end slings on them and they each have the top ends facing out (very end that is, the last 2 inches or so). I have always kept the fold in, so that the end is against the rifle and not seen. Have I been doing it wrong all these years?

Those are T63's, note the removable magazines. (There's a ridiculous 30 rounder in the farthest upright rifle, though that one looks to be an AK.)  I'm not sure if the sling attachment points on the T56 mean that the sling can't be attached in the same manner as it is on these T63s.  I don't know that there is a 'wrong' way to attach a sling to an SKS carbine unless one attachment method leads to finish damage or something like that.
