The Quarter Master is basically the warships Navigator that is stationed at the rear of the bridge. Back in those days the QM would have many large charts etc and would use this Spyglass as a navigational aid, bouy and lighthouse spotting or anything requiring the QM to get 'eyes on'. Similar to the ships bell, there is only 1 QM Spyglass per warship. When at port, the Spyglass was taken down from the bridge and given to the Watchmen, so they somewhat carry a ceremonial role in the ships operation.
Anyhow, here its is.... I named it 'Hubble'. The glass is unbelievable and the field of view out of the enormous objective lens is amazing. There is a focus ring to the rear near the eye piece to really dial in whatever your looking at to a super crisp and clear image. My attempt to get a shot looking through the unit does it a great injustice.
The box is serial matching to the Spyglass, and the unit itself is 33" long.... so almost as big as an sks. :o

I hadn't noticed the nice finger joint on the corners of the case. It's a beauty!
They sure made things differently in '42 than they do now! thumb1

That is cool 😎 Looks like it was well taken care of through its service life and the rest of the intervening 76 years since it was made.
