Title: Strawed '37 with Imperial rig & tool
Post by: Blicero on October 05, 2016, 03:16:11 AM
I've coveted the early '37s for a while, and finally just scored one. R-block, mag mm, and it came with a holster that is a bit beyond my depth, little of my learning has been devoted to WW1 era stuff.

The holster is maker-marked C Förster, Hannover, dated 1914 on the inside of the flap. I can find nothing on this maker nor any pics of any of their other rigs. I'll take a stab and guess that this firm was not in the Luger leather game for long. The holster also houses a c/U tool.

The pistol itself is in pretty nice shape, prewar craftsmanship at its finest. Bluing is fully intact down the straps, there's a cuticle-width ring of finish loss around the muzzle and a small patch of wear on the leading edge of the right frame. The right grip has a circular patch of compression directly behind the mag release, otherwise all the checkering is sharp. All strawing is healthy. This gun looks to be neither handled nor fired much in 79 years.

As a side project I have the shop asking the consignor of this pistol about the potential existence of any capture papers. Maybe they can dig something up, it's worth a shot. Pics below. Opinions welcomed.

Man, you have been on a cool pistol tear!  :o  8)

Beautiful Luger. I really like the straw highlights, and it's a Mauser. I approve, you may keep it  thumb1  chuckles1

Capture papers would certainly be a bonus but it's great regardless.

Does the tool look like it's a crown/m instead of a c/u? I may have fallen into a kriegsmarine tool.

It's a bit pixelated when I magnify but it does look like an M to me  thumb1

PM me!

I'm reticent to fall too deeply in love with the strawed prewar stuff. It feels like the next logical step on the collecting path would be studying cartel capos' gold plated ghost 45s. Need to get back to some good old wartime military blued stuff.
