I haven't been watching much GB the past month or so, or I might have pulled the trigger on this one. I have the proper mount and scope for it...

^ This one has me a little baffled. Not sure where that price tag comes from. It IS a KFS PU sniper, but it's got the wrong scope on it, and it's had finish work done. It's not as it would have come from Keng's. <shrug>

Uh Sal, missing both mount and scope means this is a bubba gun. Someone has 'improved' it and w/o a considerable amount of work, it'll never be like it was when it was imported.

Yeah, not worth my time to update the databases from the previous 11 months to match December. Decided to keep things consistent even though the desigators are wrong. Same with "Type 84's" and "Midwest Ordinance".

If I keep the commercial GB posts going into next year, I'll update everything to reflect the current status quo.

You know I was just teasing with the SKS-30 thing

As for the Bubba designation, I thought that was meant for guns that have been modified or altered. I didn't think if a gun had a scope removed that counted, but I guess it's the same premise. But for this particular rifle, I was thinking you saw the receiver holes as something bubba did.

Lots of Ms and Sporters too, and some good deals on a few of them. And even a 63 and an NR/93. Seeing a lot of the AK mag guns selling now.

Or is it easier to explain how it would have originally come for Keng's.

This is just my opinion, so take it for what you feel it's worth.

All of the KFS PU Snipers I have ever seen, were cobbled together rifles made from mismatched parts. Rarely do you see a matching serial anywhere on the gun. Rarely does the hand guard wood and stock wood even match in color.  I have never seen a "new" part or any attempt to refurbish anything on one. They slapped together good known parts and made a complete rifle.

They came two ways....with the stock bayo, and without the stock bayo. The guns with no bayo have the lug shaved off. The majority of the PU Snipers were made from arsenal 974 receivers.

Now, the gun in the auction.... the bolt is blued. The action looks like it's been reblued. It's a 3 mil gun (1958), yet it has perfect like new bluing and no scratches whatsoever on it. The stock and hand guard are replacements. The only serialed part I can see is the receiver cover, and it doesn't match. Normally that's not an issue, but if this gun was in such perfect shape everywhere else, why would the cover need replacing? It's a blade bayo gun, but has a spike on it.

The scope is no big deal. There really wasn't a specific scope that's "right" because they would put any scope you wanted on it. But it looks like a modern scope, not something from that time period. Something like a 4x20 red star or polytech would be more period correct.

It's a gorgeous gun, and of course there is always a chance that's how it came, but in this particular case, to ME, it raises way too many questions why it's so perfect compared all the other ones.

As you mention non-matching numbers and that one does have the blade ferrule with a spike bayo and stock. The other has the spike ferrule and is also non- number matching. It had no scope when I received it. I planned on putting a period correct scope on both of them and keeping them in the collection for references.  It is hard to make out the arsenal stamps but it looks like a triangle 26 on one and the other looks like 3 letters, both have been ground down, one long and one short lug barrel. both have KFS stamped barrels, that's all that match between the two really.
Anyway both are cool to me. thank you again for the info.

The one in the auction that you just bought is a 3 mil serial gun (1958). So yeah, it will have a /26\ on it. Can't say on your other one without seeing.

If you want a period correct scope, try to find a Chinese 4x20 like a Red Star or Polytech. They look like this:
