1953 Izhevsk sks
« on: August 04, 2018, 08:55:07 PM »
So as usual, I rolled the dice on a poorly described auction with useless pictures. What I got was an absolutely gorgeous 1953 Izhevsk with two peculiar features.

1. Inspector stamp (circle AN) is on left side of stock below date and Izhevsk cartouch.    Anybody seen that before?

2. Bolt is full high polish.  Much more finish work than a standard bolt carrier.  Production variation or somebody got happy with some jeweler's rouge?

I remembered that I've seen (online) another 1953 Izhevsk with the stamp AP on left side of buttstock:

Found this one too with a very different serial range.  I’m looking around to see if this is unique to 53s.

Right *Left* side acceptance stamp under the cartouche & S/N is actually quite common in Ishevsks.  I'll get some example photos up shortly.

Did you mean to say the 'other' right side?  i.e. left side?

Here's a few more:

I thought I had seen a '54 with one, but it appears I'm wrong as I can't find it in my searches.  There must have been a mid-year correction in '53 as a good many '53s have the stamp on the right side as do all the '54s.
