Hungarian Made SKS?
« on: June 24, 2016, 10:47:28 AM »
Well I emailed asking if their honour guards carry Soviet made sks or are they Hungarian made. I also asked for close up photos of their receivers. They sent me close ups of their other parade rifles receivers instead, and some more distant pics of their sks.. but on the 2nd page of this letter, a general advises that their sks are modified Soviet rifles. Pretty decent of them to get back to me and with so many pics and to go out of their way to take these pics.

Wow! Great stuff  :o  8)  I'd call the "Hungarian" SKS issue resolved  thumb1

Interesting info about use of the M95 long rifles too (his decimal place is off one, 127 cm, not 12.7). They are S marked so updated to accept the 8x56R cartridge, so M95/30s.

I plan on visiting there next year,,, hopefully can get some close up pics of them :) I think it would be next to impossible to score one though...I hear their rules are pretty tight for even citizens owning guns.

Well like Carbine said, I would have bet you were wasting your time emailing them. I'm really surprised and their answer is awesome!  thumb1 Maybe we were selling some of these folks short.

Agree with all that was previously said, excellent job CS!  It's posts like this that really set this site up as something more than a place where the current consensus is parroted ad nauseum until it becomes internet fact.

It really doesn't look like the Hungarian mods were much more than painting the stock and attaching a rubber buttpad on the parade version.  Very interesting nonetheless!  It'll be interesting to see if you can take some more detailed photos of one and we can pinpoint exactly what they may have done to stock Russian SKS45s.  thumb1

Thanks RM!  I wish he had told me what mods they did,,,but it kinda looks like a new stock was added...based on the nice grain...doesnt look like arctic birch or laminate, but thats just my guess.

Absolutely incredible discovery. Wow!! Thanks a ton for sharing with us.

Since you have some top Hungarian brass on the line, could you have them scare up some production numbers, documents, contracts, whatever they have, on the 43m & g98/40?  :P

Not a bad idea :).  Heck, I re-enquired about getting pics of their sks markings and they replied again, with about 20 high gloss pages n pics but only of their M95s. :(
