Title: 59 Yugo SKS problem

I've had my Yugo for 13 years now. It's only had about 150 rounds put through it. Problem is, the firing pin either dimples the primer or doesn't at all. I added a Murray's firing pin thinking that would help. Nothing. Dropped a Russian block into it, fired every time. Anyone have any ideas as to what the problem might be?

Sounds like either a clearance issue caused by a burr, something out of tolerance, or perhaps some debris in the FP channel is causing intermittent light strikes.  When you installed the Murray FP, did the bolt actually get inspected and cleaned (ie cleaned with something like a pipe cleaner?). That’s what I’d start looking first if multiple pins produce the same results.

I actually sent the bolt and carrier to Murray's to have it deburred.  Just got it back a week ago, dropped it in and.....not even a dimple.

Is the bolt going fully into battery?

Better yet, does the bolt match the rest of the rifle?

The numbers on the bolt and the rifle don't match. That could explain it.

Sounds like a possible headspace problem, but.... when you chamber a round, do you A: pull the cocking handle and ride it home with the carrier/bolt assy under your control or B: pull the cocking handle and just let it slam shut under it's own spring force.

It sounds like it could be a new bolt or one not trimmed for headspace enough to fully go into battery.  You may get a bit of a click, but the hammer doesn't fully fall. By swapping out a Russian bolt you eliminated pretty much everything else considering it worked.

I have a new bolt that I haven't fit yet...and it does precisely what you are saying, aside from the occasional dimpling, mine has never been fit though.  Matter o' fact...I am gonna remedy that right now while I am thinking about it.  If yours is occasionally dimpling, it's probably pretty close to being correct....but the safety measures within the trigger group are preventing firing, and singing off your eyebrows. :)

Look's like I'm sending back to Murray's for.another job then. Thank you guys! I'll keep you both posted on how it goes.
