I thought that was the Latin letter G. Some of us had discussed that on a thread of mine. https://sks-files.com/index.php?topic=5256.0

Phos was the first one to mention it as a G. Mine is about 1900 earlier than yours on the numbers. From the guide dating page I believe it to be a later '59 production year.
My Avatar is a pic of the real "Ghost" SKS in honor of xxxsks(joe). It is a pic of a fully decked out SKS in Capco hunter's kit. This was mine, the only other pic I had ever seen of one was Joe's.

GG, What's the bayonet swivel lock/tab look like on yours? Mine is a spiker so's I figure the stock is a replacement - unless the FSG or the barrel isn't the one that came with this thing.

Long collar barrel and blade bayonet, My stock is matching number side sling swivel, but yours does look scrubbed. I can faintly see parts of numbers behind the sling swivel on the stock. Whether done at arsenal level or States side who knows.
Everything else on yours looks the same as mine, U stamped rear sight leaf, long collar, milled FCG. Check your lower stock ferrule to see if it is V notched or U notched.

Let me know if you think you might part with the scrubbed stock after you swap it out.
