Repro Albanian bolt carrier
« on: April 09, 2025, 12:47:03 AM »
Man I’m filling up the projects tab my apologies gentlemen. However I’m pretty proud of this one. An Albanian sks has been a dream rifle of mine but since Canada never got Albanian SKS imports (the ones in country were imported from the states) I figured I’d make my own carrier while I was welding repro PU mosin bolts anyways

Bit of time with the MIG and it takes shape.

Starting to remove the excess weld

And here is the result. I’d probably change a couple small things and try to keep the heat down but I’m very happy with the results. Lemme know what you think.

Looks great, totally legit, you done good. All you need now is a bayo, mag and a stock. You'll have a nice poser. One of my back burner projects is to build an Alby stocked Para length, I'll call it a T54 Tanker. I've got all the metal bits but haven't figured out how to address the gas tube change. PAX

Been thinking of fabricating facsimiles of rarer rifles with markings denoting what they really are. Mostly EG and alby as NK and NV are basically just different in markings and the grenade shutoff looks hard to replicate on an NK. I don’t want to make forgeries but just replicas. Still probably won’t happen but paying mid to high four figures for one of the big three is daunting to say the least.

I'm putting together clones/replicas of various guns too $pendy to buy, out of .22 rifles and metal airsoft chassis. AK-10/22, M14-Glenfield M75, C96 artillery-AR7. I have couple AR16 knock offs, Thompson 1927A1 kit and a bull pup. There used to be a MG42 kit for the 10/22 but I haven't seen one in decades. There is a metal repo that looks doable. PAX

Looks good, I agree with PAX, very legit.  thumb1

Finding Alby hardware is almost as hard as finding a complete gun these days.  In the end, you'll have spent almost a much on a repro by piecing it together if you have to obtain all the bits and pieces today (as opposed to having a bunch of parts in your kit from years ago and using that).

Does anyone know what originals typically sell for?

I was making the final adjustments and this void appeared. How annoying.

I have a few, one (scrubbed) came with stuff and 2 I tripped over. I paid the going carrier rate moons ago. I've got a mag and a couple black bayos. Most bits weren't priced up years ago, they were just parts. Alby carrier & mag on a Shernic bull pup, Alby bayo on the last of my scrubbed parts builds, SARCO barreled action, black bolt carrier, black bayo, black Naval sling in phenolic furniture. Turned out cool, top rifle with some other of my evil doings, PAX

Figured I’d do the same for my type 81. Can’t shoot it anymore but it looks cool I guess.

Awesome work there, to say I'm impressed would be an understatement. You have some talent there.

Why thank you. I’m, hoping my batch of stock bolt carriers gets here this week. The plan is to sell these within Canada. Shipping is eating into my margins really bad so if these take off hopefully I can negotiate a decent sized batch from a distributor at a decent price. They are quite time intensive but it’s something I want to do for myself and not necessarily for a massive profit. Just hoping to fund more tooling so I can start making in demand parts for the Canadian market. Maybe branching into the American market depending on how things go. Getting a tig welder is top of my priority list right now though as it would make this whole process much easier.

Do you leave the bolts bare metal?

Yeah unless it’s specified otherwise by whoever wants one. I oil them afterwards to prevent rust but to my knowledge they are all bare metal save some Russian refurbs

Just started the first batch for sale and made this one. I’m super happy with the lack of alterations to the serial number.

when you go to market them you can also mention it can be done to their original bolt to retain matching numbers. PAX

Thanks, I was curious if they had a finish similar to what is seen on Chinese bolts.  Normally I do not study or collect outside of the Chinese SKSs so these are a bit unknown to me.
