Thanks guys,
As life happens you know the drill. My first crew in the '60s were all youngsters and as we aged, married and went in different directions, only a few huntin buds would pack. Then I moved out to the valley, kids and all their activities only left time for camp trips. Then in 2004 my youngest boy asked me if I would show him how to backpack. The second crew was born. From 2004 to 2008 we packed once a month starting in February. Our warmup trip was to burn off the holiday fat on Angel Island in the middle of SF Bay. I'd put together a general itinerary of destinations with charts, degree of difficulty, elevation gain & loss. From there we'd chase the snow melt in the Sierra and go until August. During those years we had crews of up to 18 packers, often rookies, often off trail. My boy and a handful of other rascals would usually summit the highest peak as a day trip, so one weekend I booked my son and 2 brothers with the Yosemite school of mountaineering to get them some safety free climbing instruction and skills. I was a free climber when I was a youngin. We were an item with the local outfitter, made their newsletter and the paper with a group shot. Later the team broke off into kayaking and diving then the same occurrence happened as before, life jumped in, and by 2010 we were done. I still have enough gear to put 27 folks on the dirt, PAX
