Bird from Ohio saying hello.
« on: October 06, 2021, 09:10:35 AM »
This is Bird from SE Ohio.  My username is a nickname that I have carried since first grade.  One of my classmates couldn't pronounce my last name and always called me Bird and the name just stuck. I live just minutes from a number of known experts in the firearms world and have considered myself very fortunate to call them my friends.  I have had a fascination with hand held devices that shoot projectiles ever since my father showed my brother and me how to make our own slingshots.  I have owned many types of firearms since the mid seventies and have hunted, competed and plinked every chance I got since then.

I frequent only a couple other forums and usually don't post a great deal preferring instead to stay quiet and learn from others.

I have owned only a couple SKS rifles and currently only have one in my possession.  Once I get my feet on the ground here I'll post some pictures of it and ask the experts to tell me what I have and maybe enlighten me on the history and value of it.

So, with that short intro out of the way...How in the heck is everyone out there doing today?

PS: I'll be right back, I need to make a trip to the Used Coffee Department.

Welcome aboard Bird from Kansas City, MO
My Avatar is a pic of the real "Ghost" SKS in honor of xxxsks(joe). It is a pic of a fully decked out SKS in Capco hunter's kit. This was mine, the only other pic I had ever seen of one was Joe's.

Poke around, read and enjoy. When you figure out picture posting, then please start a new topic on your SKS. The “Upload image to post” button just below the text box is the easiest way to add photos.

Welcome to the 'Files from SW Missouri, Bird!  Great to have you join us!

Tell us a bit about #5.  Sleek lines there.  Looks like it could be a fun shooter.

We're looking forward to pics of your SKS and any other firearms you want to share with us.  But we REALLY like the SKS!  thumb1

What is the country of origin of your SKS? Chinese? Russian? Seems like most 1st SKS' are mostly Chinese, followed by Russian. The others are normally bought as "the next one in the collection" and such. Or did you throw down $8,000.00 for a nice East German or North Korean as your 1st SKS?   chuckles1  :)  See how my imagination just runs wild when there's little info put out there and no pics? Ya gotta be gentle with those starved from our usual diet of gun porn.... chuckles1

Happy to have you here Bird!  I'm most certainly biased, but I consider SKS-Files to be head and shoulders above any other SKS site (indeed, above most other general gun sites) on the 'net when it comes to camaraderie, helpfulness of the membership, and general knowledge of our favorite firearms!

Looking forward to seeing your SKS and perhaps anything else in your collection you might want to share.

Welcome aboard!  thumb1

Well, Lucky Number 5 is a Remington 513T 22lr that I acquired from CMP several years back.  Stamped...U.S. Property, Military Finish.  It looks rough but it shoots lights out, even with the irons sights.  I was lucky to draw Lucky Number 5.   yahoo1
