Howdy all from northern Arizona. I was raised in the heavily wooded Southeast, so hunting with iron sighted carbines is the way I like to go. Brush guns like the 30-30 and the SKS are hunting favorites of mine. I used to own a Chinese SKS a while back, sold it a while back because the thing rattled like a tin can every time I shook it and the parts were pretty worn. I now own an older Russian which is much nicer to shoot; see the picture below for a look at her.
I’m pretty ignorant about the SKS and semi-auto weapons in general, so I’m mostly here to learn from those of y’all who have been shooting these things for a long time.

Howdy from the Live free Or Die State of NH. SKS's are good rifles for hunting in my experience. A little faster and flatter shooting than a 30-30 win. imho. Good for bear, coyotes, deer and boar.

Welcome to the site.
Enjoy taking it to the range - mine has been great shooters. Low recoil and functioned flawlessly.
