Ah, so you are Mick from over on the other SKS boards. I thought that was you, lol.

You know, I am a firm believer in "if it works well for you then it works, period". I also am a firm believer in "what works for one person is not necessarily another person's cup of tea".
Having said that, which I hadn't commented on the other boards, is my main issue with this set up is that the SKS if front heavy enough without adding another pound to it out on the front of the rifle. My own opinion, naturally.

Glad it works for you.
My Avatar is a pic of the real "Ghost" SKS in honor of xxxsks(joe). It is a pic of a fully decked out SKS in Capco hunter's kit. This was mine, the only other pic I had ever seen of one was Joe's.

SKS rifle is just fine the way it was designed, this is a form of BUBBA

It's just a barrel mount 2-3 groove pic rail with a Bushnell TR-25 clone on it. Ebay are Us.

The rifle is not altered at all, it can still be used exactly as it was designed.

That's all it is... The red dot and the mount in the video came from Aliexpress, under $30 US for both including shipping. $22.22 USD actually :)

The red dot looks exactly the same no matter where you stick it.

You are welcome  ;)

I likely wouldn't add this to a really nice SKS, but for a beater truck gun/tactical teddy rifle.....Why not?

Dots definitely have their place, even with crusty old bastiges like me that maintain that milsurps should be kept stock at all times.

It's especially suited to a really nice SKS as there are no modifications and all the stock features work as intended.

I don't know, Cupid.
I'd be worried about scratching the rifle, or about rust forming under the mount.

I can be a bit obsessive about that type of thing.

That is why we have the AR platform to use that on, an original 50 or more year old firearm doesn't need this, it is like putting a jet engine on a horse drawn carriage.

Aw, come on Owen, don't exaggerate. It's only like putting a turbo'd V-8 on a horse drawn carriage. rofl rofl

I pad the sight base to avoid any scratches.

It works well on other rifles too.

50 or 100 years old makes no difference, my 1908 Mauser could not care less, me neither.  :)

The mount and the red dot are personally of no interest, as I like the iron sights on my SKSs, Mausers, etc. I just like them to look and shoot the way they were historically used, and to me a red dot looks completely out of place on these rifles, like sidewinder missiles on a Sopwith Camel. Having it hung out on the end of the barrel like a harmonic dampener weight just doubles down on the out of place appearance :))

But to each their own. If it is reversible and doesn't harm the finish, do what you like.  :)
