CZ-83s

This is for Larry D who posted "Sarge - I could get to hate you...I've been looking all over the place for months for a CZ83 and here you have 2 of them......"

We bought two of them brand new on 31 March 1992 (Both made in 1991) while stationed at Rhein Main AB, Germany, I rotated back to the US on 08 July 1992.

I get a shotgun pattern at 30 feet with it, my wife gets a soda can size circle at 30 feet with rapid fire.

My father in law has one of them right now, he borrowed it and fell inove with it.  We paid $249.94 each for them, and we still have all the paperwork for them. Both of them are marked Mod. 83 Cal. 9 Browning Made In Czechoslovakia. All the paperwork that came with the gun is written in Czech. The gun is not marked US anywhere etc.

The one with the trigger lock is the one currently with my FIL. As you can see on the slide of the other gun, there are no import markings and that they were made in Czechoslovakia.

There's an extra picture of the one here with its older brother a 1953 CZ-52. Paid $250.00 for the CZ-52 with two magazines, holster, 100 rounds of ammo and a manual for it.

Nope not at all. Since it's not a banned weapon it was almost too easy to be honest.

On one the paperwork came through real quick, the second one I had the paperwork forwarded to a stateside address. But that was not an problem caused by the ATF, I some how screwed the paperwork up on the second one and had to resubmit the paperwork.

I informed customs that I was carrying firearms in my baggage. I was taken off to side to an office. They verified the SN for the one I had the paperwork on and let me take it. The one I was waiting on paperwork for was locked up, a week later when I went to pick my car up at the port, I went by the air port showed them the paperwork for the second pistol and off I went, with it in hand.

It was just as easy as doing the ATF 4473 paperwork to purchase a weapon at your local gun store.

Thank you, we tend to take care of our guns. The finish looks splotchy on the one, but it's just a heavy coat of oil. Being in Florida with the high humidity, all our guns are over oiled.

Both of 83s have never had a FTF or FTE they eat whatever we feed them and ask for more. They are really awesome pistols and my wife loves it. She learned to shoot it two handed first, then moved on to one handed, and is currently practicing weak handed with it. She can get a saucer or slightly bigger grouping doing rapid fire weak handed shooting at 30 feet.

I'm scare to death of her and her accuracy with it.

I didn't know a US citizen could import a firearm from another country without going through an FFL-08. Is that a provision for US service members or is it a general provision for US citizens? I guess I haven't thought through it before because the firearms I lust after across the border in Canada, SVT-38, SVT-40, SKS-45, are prohibited from import for other country of origin specific reasons.

I believe it has to do with the fact I purchased them through/at the Rod & Gun Club on base,  they can only sell firearms that can be legally imported.

Here's another CZ to make you mad. I added a 1989 CZ-82 to the herd. Bottom picture top to bottom, 1953 CZ-52, 1989 CZ-82, and 1991 CZ-83, the other 1991 CZ-83 is still living in Maryland with my Father-in-Law.

I agree with P32, very nice. 

I absolutely love my CZ82.  Mine is in much worse condition than this one though.  One nice thing about that is it makes it easy to toss it & its holster in the console in the truck when heading out w/o worrying about scuffing anything up.  I just wish 9mm Mak was as affordable as 9mm Luger.

I have a Cz-82 in 9x18 but it has the typical holster wear flaked paint. I really love the design, that it does not have a decocker and is SA. I wish CZ still supported these because they are popular I think and so many have been imported. They are light years better than a Bersa. My biggest gripe is that crossed sword mags are so hard to find now and grossly overpriced and CZ does not make any new ones. The aftermarket mags are also crap. The ones with CZ marked on the floor plate are fake. I asked CZ to please make new ones a few months ago. I did add new springs to mine because it was jamming when racking the slide on a loaded mag. That rectified the problem. The spring was probably shot.

The modern made ones seem to have a much better finish and some are even done in nicklel. I want to refinish the slide on mine at some point. Maybe a can of degreaser and some gunkote or other product is in order in a semi-gloss black or satin finish to match the frame. Totally agree that CZ is an excellent brand, both retro and modern. I have been eyeballing the CZ27's with Waffenamt's as well for the collection.

I picked up another CZ-82 a 1990 dated one. Came with 3 magazines. One with a stamped floor plate, one with a milled floorplate and one of the fake Chinese ones.

Just need to get a holster and lanyard for this one.

There are demilled Cz82/Cz83 mags as well, and unmarked ones which I've heard are the commercial non-military marked magazine or they were made for police units. Police units didn't need to be military accepted. When I got my 3 Cz82s.. they included one aluminum base magazine and one stamped steel base mag, the aluminum base was in the pistol, the stamped base was in a mag pouch, both had crossed swords.

Interesting didn't know about the demilled ones, learn something new everyday.  I'll have to check mine and see if any are demilled

Both of my CZ-82s came with the crossed sword  marked magazines. So I have 3  magazines with stamped floorplates and 1 with the milled floorplate. Plus the CZ marked Chinese knockoff.
