Little help
« on: January 26, 2017, 07:16:07 PM »
Ok... I've got a question, well.... more of a request, so I will say, PLEASE and even a Thank you  thumb1  :)  I would like to see a "no date" Romanian SKS, a picture...something, just some kind of proof of existence so I don't have to lay awake at night. I've looked, dug and looked some more. I find a couple of odd serial numbers, again "reportedly" belonging to a no-date, but no photos to back it. Was their only like 5 or 10 made and they were locked away in a safe somewhere, sealed in a empty uranium mine in Europe after documentation, lost at sea before import?

All I see and find are posts from years gone by of "reportedly there is such a thing", if there is, where are or is a photo of it, even a Polaroid would work? I've also searched auctions, for sale ads, this and that and nothing. Did I miss one somewhere, over look it, pass it by, if so...great, show me :)

I don't care about what Russia or Albania did with no dates... I'm talking about Romania.. and that mythical unicorn..
I'm going to make him an offer he can't refuse......

Leave the gun, take the cannoli.

I said I was an addict........I didn't say I had a problem

Bump!

I second the request.

1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms... It doesn't matter how many Lenins you get out on the street begging for them to be taken.

Just say'in    :)

Don't tell me we can find the first production Yugoslavian M59s and the first production Chinese Soviet-Sino 3 and 4 digit rifles and all this other stuff....but we can't locate a "reportedly there is such a thing" no date Romanian  :)

It appears that the two no dates on the Romanian S/N Data Board list came from: http://www.SKSboards.com/smf/index.php?topic=37745.60

This is why we only include guns we have photos for in the SKS-Files lists.  bat1 bat1 bat1

The person recording the numbers originally could have just as easily made a mistake It seems.

But then you hit up "the google" and luck out sometimes:

I honestly believe they simply missed the year stamp.  There is supposedly a Romy out there with a 1980 date that should have been 1960...

Yeah... I dunno.   That prefix is like the third used so it wouldnt make sense as its not 'that' early and the ones prior presumably do have the year.

I must have a lying Google.. so.. it's not a unicorn fart... thumb1

The date stamping guy was off that week or something if the prefix was not the original beginning, then it would or should be 1957 dated.

So...they do exist...they just aren't what they are fluffed up to be after all these years.. Easy enough  :)

Good.. I can sleep now. Thanks RM  thumb1

Hey...  If we didnt have the only reliable list of serials in chronological order...  we wouldn't be able to tell its not 'first' in the sequence.

SKSFiles wins again!   :P

I suspect it's similar to what happened to this /?5\ Chinese:

Should be 1-18xxxxx but they screwed up and just stamped it 18-xxxxx. By February (2-18), they had it fixed:

Come to think of it, that's a pretty good piece of evidence that the 1 through 12 numbers are months, they screwed up in Jan and had it fixed by Feb.  thumb1

PS0054 and PS0071 don't have the date it appears but PS0091 does.  Took em darn near 100 guns to figure out they made a mistake. These no dates are most certainly '57s like you said LC.  dance2

How do we know the PS came after the AA and DE series (besides alphabetical order?). Maybe starting up they changed their minds ~91 guns in and decided to add a date?

So in the end...

It's a simple stamping error, or lack thereof, maybe just a snap decision or an oops I forgot to....nothing to get all excited over. The time frame from 1957 to 1960 is pretty much it. The subject of a pre '57 or post '60 production is pretty much now null and void, given there are several no date prefixes noted in the 1957 year of production. thumb1

Good..now I dont have to keep looking for unicorns...and I can sleep and dream of Romys in sexy leather slings... :)

I dunno...  I thought we had that list in chronological order.  Been a while since I looked at it.  If the serial sequence starts over for each prefix, and we dont know the order of the prefixes in each year, then I would say PS could have def been first.

My '58 is a CD series.....as in... CD'ese Romanians :P  rofl  A  GM prefix..humm, that should be a '59 model, thats entirely doable, it's a pretty common prefix. Then I gots to go find another leather bustier strap drool2

If people would buy something other than common everyday Russians or Chinese, I could find one here and maybe try to swindle someone out of it. rofl I mean if you look at the Romanian board.. pick'ens is really slim, I bet there is only maybe 25 rifles. They live up to the name "red headed step child". chuckles1
