Romanian Sling
« on: May 16, 2016, 12:51:02 PM »
Read on this forum that original leather Romanian SKS slings may be hard to find. So far, that's what I have encountered. Found a couple that look like the original but are reproductions. Am I just looking in the wrong places or are they actually rare? Should I just go ahead and buy a leather reproduction? What's a max price for an original? What's a max price for a reproduction? Thanks!

Scarce. Keep an eye on ebay and GunBroker. Expect to pay at least $40. I haven't seen Romanian SKS sling reproductions per se, but you could probably put a Romanian AK sling on it in the meantime if you need a functional sling (World War Surplus is one seller). I haven't done this substitute, so if others have experience with it fitting correctly, or not, they can chime in.

Welcome to the Romanian sling hunt thumb1 There is no reproductions I know of, and yes, an original is really that hard to find.

Now as for price, ask, what it's worth to you, my most expensive was 80 bucks, then I scored two for 45. You could get lucky and stumble on one the person has no Idea what it is or fits, or you will find one the seller knows exactly what he's got.

The Romanian Ak sling fits, but looks kinda cheesy after you see the original  :)

The originals look like these

Ozarkmac,  I just picked one from eBay for $35.  I have been looking for almost a year.  I had one ready to be mine and I fell asleep before the auction ended....for $25 banghead1

Keep looking and be patient.  One will show up!

I bought one of the 5 used leather slings listed as "SKS Romanian Leather Sling"  for $10.00 shipped. Doesn't look exactly like the ones on this forum, but close enough. It's reddish brown, one end has the dog collar buckle, and the other end has the metal half-moon ring with the metal clip. The seller says its authentic but I can tell you that I've yet to see any that are stitched. This one and all the others I've seen for sale so far are riveted.

The good thing is a co-worker does leather work and can repair or modify it for me as needed. I thought about just paying him to make one for me.

Sounds like an AK-47 sling. So I take it this means you snagged one of the Romanian SKSs you were looking at  :)

Yes, I'll get some pics up in the near future. It's a 58. All matching except for the stock. Appears unfired. Really nice condition all around and the price was right. I appreciate the help!
