Value and opinions on Zestava Serbia SKS
« on: January 07, 2019, 05:58:42 PM »
I'm looking at a SKS online, that seller says Is an all  matching Zestava Serbian SKS. What I see is basically a Yugo. My question is this, is a SKS marked this way actually worth more or is it just a Yugo ? He places a value of $500 which I think is at least $100 high. Your opinions are appreciated, thanks

First, it's hard to judge without any pictures, and only "Zastava" as the description  ;)  If the importer marked it Zastava, it adds zero value. If new exports are being marked Zastava, it adds zero value. I'm assuming it's simply an M59/66-A1 with a grenade launcher and flip up night sights.

$500 isn't crazy but perhaps about $50 high for one in very good mechanical and cosmetic condition. For an original matching (not electropenciled, no 1.TRZ marking on the stock, no "parts numbers" on the parts) M59/66-A1, then $500 would be quite reasonable. An M59 (no GL, standard gas block, not a neutered M59/66) in very good condition would be  closer to the $500 range. I've never seen an original matching M59. I would value one of those at $550+.

Is it worth more, short answer no.. a Zastava is just a Yugoslavian/Serbian made weapon, made pretty much in the same factory as the Mausers, Aks, Tokarevs and even commercial variants.. Now you say just a Yugo, is it an M59, a M59/66, a M59/66A1.. a typical M59 will carry a small premium over a model with a launcher. Where I am, a typical price for the launcher model is usually between 4 to 500 depending on condition, a primo Cherrys import will be on the higher end.
I'm going to make him an offer he can't refuse......

Is it a PW arms import?  I believe certain import batches had 'Zastava' stamped in the import stamp.

I would have issues paying $500 for any M59/66A1.  They are simply too common even in good condition.
