22LR Jackalope Sniper Challenge
« on: September 15, 2014, 02:57:47 PM »
Here is your chance to earn the honorary title of (Jackalope Sniper)

You are about to embark upon a great crusade, where jackalopes run rampant devouring everything in their path and YOU must take them out.  What better way to test your marksmanship skills than to shoot for small groups at 100 yards with a 22LR !

Test your skills, test your rifle, test your ammunition and perhaps you could work your way up the (Jackalope Sniper) ladder.

To advance the rules are simple.
1: Must be 22LR
2: Must be 100 yards
3: Must have atleast 8 outta 10 in Class 1
4: Must have atleast 6 outta 10 in Class 2
5: Must have atleast 4 outta 10 in Class 3
6: Must provide picture of rifle & target
7: Must post info about your weapon.. ammo, scope, mods etc
8: Breaking the line is "in".

11 shots total...... 10 at the main target, and 1 at the head-shot

(Class 1) Atleast 8 outta 10
Master Gunnery Sgt. = qualify  X3
First Sergeant. = qualify  X2
Master Sergeant. = qualify X1

(Class 2) Atleast 6 outta 10
Gunnery Sgt. = qualify X3
Staff Sgt. = qualify X2
Sargent.  = qualify X1
_
(Class 3) Atleast 4 outta 10

Corporal. = qualify X3
Lance Cpl. = qualify X2
Private. = qualify X1

Shooters that nail the head-shot with a qualifying target will automatically advance to the top of their class. Once you make Corporal or Gunnery Sgt. you have to start shooting in the next class to advance. You can start in class 1, 2, or 3 ..... the choice is yours.

Every shooter that posts a qualifying target is a Jackalope Sniper!

Helpful knowledge:
22lr bullet drop from a 50y zero: 1200 fps = -5.8" , 1100 fps = -6.8" , 1000 fps = -8.3"
100 yard 22lr average windage push:  2" at 5mph , 4" at 10mph etc
Sound barrier varies but usually stays around 1,100 FPS at sea level.

Download the PDF target by clicking on it below... If you have what it takes!   Center circle should be 1.5" across, and you may have to select (fit to printable area) in your printing options.

List of Jackalope Snipers

(Class 1)
Master Gunny SlumberingBear
Master Gunny Power Surge

(Class 2)

(Class 3)

A special thanks to my good friend Glen for drawing us such a fine jackalope worth shooting at.

1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms... It doesn't matter how many Lenins you get out on the street begging for them to be taken.

Its Cannon!!!

Find some Norma Tack-22...  as good as $15 box of high end target ammo but only costs 1/3 the price.

Posting this for my father (SlumberingBear)

Three up... three down.  This is how its done!   SlumberingBear has won the highest title awarded (Master Gunny) in the challenge with 3 qualifying targets with an amazing 10 outta 10 on all three targets with three dif rifles. He didnt even bother with the head-shot attempt. All targets were shot using Federal Ultra match ammo.

USP Wincheter 52D

USP Remington 40X

Russian Vostock Ural....  this rifle is an absolute animal. Almost Identical to the newer CM2 like Adam7 has for sale currently in the classified section.

Just a suggestion....maybe change this to 50 yards? I don't think the average person has the optics needed to hit that small of a target at 100 yards. :)

I completed this entire challenge from bottom to top on a dif board using nothing but iron sights.   :)

Its not supposed to be easy. Its meant to challenge the shooter to find the ammo that works best in their rimfire, and practice skills that usually pertain to longer ranges with higher powered rifles.

Can you elaborate on the proper sizing? I can't get anything smaller than a 2" circle for the body target. That's the overall target, from black outer edge to black outer edge. But compared to the targets your dad shot, my scaling looks the same on an 8x11 piece of paper?

Everyones printer will be slightly different, but the avg size should be 2".  Your doing pretty good at 2" as mine come out 1.90"

There was a similar challenge on rimfirecentral with a target measuring 1.5"

Ok cool... I got the 1.9" scale on mine.

I usually do the superstock games on rimfirecentral.

For anyone interested with irons or lower powered scopes.  I dont care what you use as a poa to get your rounds on target. I used a lid of a can of cachews, painted it black, put white paper behind it for contrast, and shot at ole Jack with the bull placed about 9" below. Kept a 50y zero and let gravity do the work for me. This gives you something to see with the naked eye while still implementing all the necessary practices, skills, ammo, and equipment etc.

I'll give this a try this week. I haven't actually shot my target .22 at 100 yards, so it should be fun :)

Alright, here's mine from today.

Ruger American Rimfire .22, Norma-tac ammo, 18x power.

8 out of 10 hits. The quarter is just there to show scale for my facebook post, lol.
