Basically a commercial variant of the Mossberg 44US and the later 144US, with updates, this one has a AC-KRO-GRUV barrel, which I guess is akin to Marlins Micro-groove rifling. Also, there were some slight changes in the sights. Years and years ago I got this thing, cheap, the reason it's remained, it's accurate and it's fun
There are several variants, 144LS, 144LSA and this was the last of the 44 target rifle line, manufactured '79 to '85, some have been reported prior to that date range also. The front sight has changeable apertures, which took forever to find a complete set. The heavy barrel is 15/16 of an inch in diameter and it's 26 inches long, and weighs 8 pounds, which is light I discovered, after I got a Vostock CM-2. It's usually according to LC, listed as a junior target rifle, a great deal of money separates a junior from a top match Olympic target rifle. Bah, junior, freshman or not
, it hits what I wanna hit, and it's even been groundhog hunting, and won.
