Here's an odd one I ran across lately and had to take home. Produced from 60-65 it was a lightweight variant of the Winchester Model 50 auto-loader, which was designed in part by "Carbine" Williams . It had a alloy receiver with a fiberglass wrapped barrel, I think the gun weighs around 6 pounds. The '61+ models were available with one of the first screw in choke systems but this one is a a first year gun with a four digit serial. It still retains some of the pre-64 workmanship, nice machined components and hand checkered stocks.
I think total production was only 80k or thereabouts, it wasn't a great success. I would imagine people were skeptical of the fiberglass barrel and also Remington releasing some new automatic. 1100 or something.
Winchester really never would produce a good auto-loader until the Super X 1. That one unfortunately bankrupted the company . My next find hopefully.
