Savage 99 in 300 Sav.
« on: June 24, 2015, 09:37:04 PM »
I acquired this rifle about 20 years ago,it's a late model version E Series with the budget minded stock.  I took off the old painted on finish and refinished it myself.  She has  only maybe a 100 rds. of factory ammo fired through it but I've been shooting lots of cast loads in it as of late.

Although I have a good supply of factory brass I started reforming 308 Win. and 7.62 NATO brass back into 300 Sav. a few years ago I like the NATO brass better as it's much thicker and will last a long time.  An added bonus is that due to the lesser case capacity with the lower velocity cast loads I can gain around 100 fps. MV over an equal load in a factory or converted 308 case.

Case conversion is basically a three step process.  Resize the expanded base of the NATO cases with a 06 FL resizing die, reform the shoulder with the factory 300 Sav. FL die and trim off the excess brass.

Five shot test group  using the Lee .312" TL bullet sized to .311"

1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms... It doesn't matter how many Lenins you get out on the street begging for them to be taken.
