Guys with intimate knowledge of Japanese guns can certainly help, but I'll start off with the standard kindergarten question & statment:

What type Arisaka do you have?
Photos would help for certain.

Here is a good site to get started in translating the markings:
http://oldmilitarymarkings.com/japanese_markings.html

And http://www.castle-thunder.com/ is another decent site.  They have forms you can fill out with characteristics of components to narrow things down and they used to let you email/mail the forms in and would provide you with feedback (not sure if they still do, but may be worth a try if the answer is not obvious):

Type 44 Carbine: http://www.castle-thunder.com/datasheets/44ds.pdf
Type 99 Short Rifle: http://www.castle-thunder.com/datasheets/99ds2010e.pdf
Type 99 Long Rifle: http://www.castle-thunder.com/datasheets/99lds.pdf

I think it's a Type 99? It's been full on Bubba'd before I got it. It is something that my dad had. Chambered for .300 Savage. No mum.

Yup, itís a Type 99 receiver. The manufacturer marking would be on the left receiver rail to the right of the original serial number, if it hasnít all been scrubbed off. The series number is also present to the left of the serial number.
