Title: I can Czech it off the list
Post by: Greasemonkey on January 07, 2019, 09:09:43 PM
One that has been on my bucket list for 8 or 9 years.. the Samopal vzor 61, Vz.61 or simply, the Skorpion. CzechPoint has made, as I understand, a very limited run of them in all 3 calibers, .32acp(the original), 9mm Mak and 380acp. I had to do it, I had to scratch that almost 10 year itch. The 9mm Mak and 380acp both have straight magazines, the .32acp because of the semi-rim cartridge has a small banana magazine. This is the pistol that has led to the Cz Scorpion EVO variants, they are based off the design of this old pistol.

This little machine pistol while not as popular as some of the other Cold War weapons, there is no denying it's a communist weapon, it's tough, it's kinda ugly and it just works. It has played a pretty signifiant role in recent history and conflicts and even mass media such as movies, it even saw use and action during Vietnam. Yugoslavia made a licensed copy the M84, it was used in the Yugoslav Wars and exported to and used by other nations as well. It is still currently in use in Czechoslovakia and is still bought and used by many nations, even Russia has bought them for Spetsnaz units. Developed in the late '50's by Miroslav Rybář, testing was around 1959 and full Czech military acceptance in 1961, even some Czech police units were using it. Also, through out history, it is a notorious weapon used by terrorists.

While it's caliber is rumored to be lacking, .32acp or 7.65 Browning has proven it's worth in the 100+ years of use, especially when the real military example can fire 800 rounds a minute, and fire that accurately. One advantage to the smaller caliber is it's more controllable than larger calibers like 9mm, it doesn't rise up, and typically is only shot in short bursts. Also, given the smaller round, it's very easy and common to suppress them.

It included a 10rd and 2 20rd magazines, the discoloration on the one magazine is shipping oil/grease..hey.....I just picked it up. :)   As you will see, a .32acp is not just for mouse guns thumb1

Like any Czech weapon, cleaning is easy, push the captive pin in the front, slide the top receiver forward about a 1/4 inch and it hinges open like an AR. The bolt, carrier and recoil spring assy. slide right out the back, while the internals are open for inspection or cleaning.

The ejection port is on the top.. also note the rear sight, it's calibrated in 75 or 150 meters by flipping it forward or back, it's not by any means a target weapon with the primitive sights, never was designed as such, it's a machine gun. It has a last shot hold open built in, like a Vz.58. Also, this semiauto is like the military version, both fire from a closed bolt, unlike most small machine guns that use an open bolt mechanism. It does not have the fire rate reducing hardware installed, on the full auto variant, the firing rate reducer is located in the grip.

Little gratuitous Czech hardware shot.. thumb1 for size comparison.. the barrel is 4.5 inches, overall it's about 11 inches long, and weight is a little less than 3 pounds.

Import stampings.. It is built from some surplus parts, the machined lower receiver is how ever made new, to make it meet BATFE requirements for a semiauto. It also almost begs to be SBR'ed with the folding wire stock...... which I am currently checking into. :)

Oh my, that is some CZ drool-worthy goodness  drool2 shooting1 That should be a fun shooter.

That would be very cool SBR’d. I’m not sure how effective that short little folding wire stock would be but it sure looks nice  :)

And years ago I said I would never buy a 32acp.................now I have............they're like rabbits.

New RM saying, the only way to avoid .32acp #2, is to avoid .32acp #1  rofl

The stock, is only between 10 and 11 inches long.. so it would be cramped, like shooting a small youth rifle.

Thanks, I like the weird odd ball stuff..I find the history interesting and design intriguing on stuff like this.

Can't wait to try it, it will make a nice....... semi-retirement piece. I've had a fun ride, but I will be cutting back for a while. Maybe finish my degree and deal with certain things that need tending too.
GM disclaimer........ :o
I use the term "semi-retirement" loosely... I am an addict, I admit this, therefore, I am subject to fall off the wagon at any moment. Actors and singers do it all the time, so no one is perfect.  thumb1

SNAZZZ-EEEEE! Gotta be one of the best looking 'parts gun' firearm I've ever seen.  :P
Any scoop on spare parts, issue cleaning kit? And, did a folding/para tube stock come with any of these beauties?

CzechPoint has replacement parts, parts kits are available from time to time, I think Numrich has some parts and the magazines are not overly hard to come by. Some parts are swappable between the .380/9mm Mak.. but the .32acp is it's own little beast. I believe you can convert the .380/9mm Mak back and forth between calibers with a bolt and barrel change. All 3 calibers available in threaded models for silencing as well. Cleaning kits....just look on fleabay.

You can get a kind of goofy looking "brace" for them from CzechPoint.. they are drilled for the factory stock.... the actual factory folding wire stock makes it an SBR and requires the ATF paperwork.

THE FOLDING STOCK WILL NOT BE SHIPPED WITH THE VZ. 61 PISTOL. DO NOT ORDER THE VZ. 61 STOCK AND THE VZ. 61 PISTOL TOGETHER.   IF YOU ORDER THE STOCK AND VZ. 61 PISTOL TOGETHER, THE STOCK WILL NOT BE SHIPPED AND YOU WILL BE CHARGED A 15% RESTOCKING FEE ON THE STOCK.   REASON:  THIS IS TO AVOID ANY POTENTIAL 'CONSTRUCTIVE POSSESSION' LEGAL ISSUES THAT AN INDIVIDUAL MAY ENCOUNTER.
