Just to "shoot", picking one of each - the Barrett .50 and Browning Hi-Power. With a spotter for the Barrett, it's probably one of the most relaxing thing a guy can do in the prone position  8) Ten rounds downrange = 45 or so minutes of pure 'therapy'. The Hi-Power - after a hundred or so rounds of slow fire, at a 25yd silouette, my '72 T gets me right to my happy zone.  yahoo1

My turn.
Favorite rifle, hands down: M1 Carbine.

Pistol: Just about any vintage 1911. Second place would be a mid 30's vintage Colt 1903 in 32ACP.

GM, my second bolt action is my CZ-529 in 7.62×39. Sweet and smooth action, a great shooter overall.

I do love me some vintage firearms.
Basically, anything from muzzle loaders up to, say, the Korean War.

I used to shoot with a group that had some FFL SOT types. These guys knew I was a WWII buff, so on occasion, I was treated to a Class III toy.
Thompsons (a lot of them), MP40, BAR, M3, M1919, Vickers, Maxim, etc. And some newer stuff like MP5K, a bunch of AK's, a full  auto Ruger 10/22, an MG42 that was modified to us an M16 lower receiver, an M14E1, and some kind of short 308 cal that was LOUD!
There were some muffled goodies every now and then.
Uncle Sam let me play with M16A1 and A2 and a little bit of time with the M60.

I don't get out much these days, but I used to shoot a lot.

I have a Cz-527 Varmint Kevlar in .223.. it's almost boring to shoot, but I don't have to move around to pop groundhogs.  chuckles1

And while not technically a rifle, my Suomi gets high marks in the fun, accuracy and enjoyment factor department. :)

And no drooling over my wood... bat1

I've been a handgun shooter for a long time, but not much of a rifle guy.  Apart from my recently purchased SKS I only own a Ruger 10/22.

As for handguns, it's really tough as I enjoy shooting both revolvers and pistols.  So I'll enter one in each category:  Pistol - Sig P226 with the SRT....Revolver - Ruger Security Six .357 4" (my first revolver bought June 1980 and a regular at the range on Saturday mornings!)

When I go to the family ranch out in west Texas, there is large tank about 250y from the house.  We like to fill empty gallon jugs with greatstuff foam, tie them to a brick with about 10 feet of rope, toss them out into the tank, and shoot at them with extreme mortar angles from the porch while smoking a brisket and drinking beer.

DC it has nothing to do with "messing with Texas". However, that isn't a good idea either. It has everything to do with messing with "Marcus". I suspect you guys feel the same way. I suppose it depends on the job to be done. Long range, or meat for the table, Swede M96, firefight/defense, likely the M1A, AR15, AR10. For hunting small game the Henry lever 22mag or the Ruger 10/22. For birds or small game, the Browning 12ga A5 is a great choice. The A5 is also good for stopping intruders at the bottom of the stairs. Like I mentioned, too many to choose from. Lots of rifles (shotguns) can be used in a dual or triple use platform. Take the Swede for instance, it can be a multi-use platform weapon and you don't HAVE to use the others. As well, the others also. "One", no such thing as "one". BUT, you can not carry them all with you if you need to be mobile.

If the world were "nuked" and I could only carry ONE because I have to walk everywhere, I guess it would be the Swede. It has distance killing, very long distance killing capability, 1,000 yards and more, the rifle is not especially heavy, it is robust and easy to take care of, it is a bolt action, you can pack a lot of ammo in small places, it is 6.5x55, it slings over the shoulder well. If I died for some reason, my ammo won't likely help those with x39's. Remember, there is always a method to the madness. BUT, I likely would figure out a way to carry the Ruger 10/22 also. It is the take down model in its own carry case. You can pack a LOT of 22lr in a small area also. I may need to have Athena carry it/ammo for us. Athena is my Great Dane. I think she would be OK with it.

Marcus

In North TX they just run up to a 300 pound wild hog and punch it with a bowie knife.

Just to be clear, I'm talking about just a fun gun. The ones that put a smile on your face when you take them out.
My choices would be different if I were putting meat on the table, or had to confront multiple intruders, or longer range precision shooting.
