1954 Tula (pic heavy)
« on: October 28, 2019, 08:07:57 PM »
Hello everyone.
New to the forum and I’m posting up my new to me 1954 Tula.  I bought this locally in Arizona off of Armslist. I was skeptical when it went up for sale at first since the condition is so nice...thought it could be a fake.

This is a KBI import and came with original box, sling, and oiler. I feel like I got a killer deal and won’t say how much just yet...I’ll let you all guess.

No arsenal refurb mark that I can see but plenty of proof marks. All matching except the gas tube and piston, but they match each other.

Great stamps on this bolt...love it.

Nice '54. I'm rather certain that stock has been refinished, however. But I'm no expert just yet. I'll let the big dogs give their thoughts.

It’s really in too good of shape to not have been refinished...it’s just beautiful.

Nice but, I agree in thinking that the stock has been refinished.  Also with the gas tube and piston not matching the rest of it I am leaning toward it being a refurb.  I have been wrong many times before though.

Beautiful !! No xxxx on stock that I can see. No BBQ paint another bonus ! Do you have a picture of the box ? Those are always nice to see and an added value of about 50.00. You did really good !  Looks like a Chinese sling so Id try and find a Russian one.  Cool Gun ! Always nice to see posts of SkS's. never boring : )

I wondered when the sling would be noticed!  I couldn’t get the buckle through the rear attachment, it’s too small, so I swapped slings with my T56.

Concerning installation of sling- go on Youtube and search for sling installation on Russian SKS. Tricky unless you know the sequence. Also very nice looking SKS and would have to agree with stock being redone.

A very fine shooter that was refurbed, based on the mismatched gas tube and piston. The sanding and refinishing was done stateside by someone trying to “improve“ it. The box and accoutrements are nice bonuses.

Pretty nice deal!  I love it hen guns fall into your lap on armslist!  Here's some of her sisters:

The first three are refurbs.  The last ЗЛ6650 gun is as-issued.  You can compare that stock finish with what you have and tell right away that yours has been worked on after it arrived stateside which is a real shame because it likely came in as-issued.  The Russians did not use stain & poly or any type of oil/BLO on these.

Nice gun all in all though, how does she shoot?  thumb1

Really good looking guns!  Have not yet shot this one...may be another couple of weeks before I can get out.

Not disappointed that this is not in-issued. I want to shoot it!  If it was in fact in-issued I might be tempted to leave it be.

My local price was in fact $500, which I was happy to pay in this condition.
