Honour guard rifle
« on: November 30, 2023, 10:49:27 PM »
Picked the rifle up a few months ago and decided to post it for your viewing pleasure. It has hands down the worst trigger pull I?ve ever felt in my life, and that elongated blade bayonet would feel terrible to actually shoot while folded. But it is just too cool not to love. Funny enough the blade is even longer than a yugo 59/66 bayonet, maybe even the longest version ever made.

It's cool, PAX

Very interesting! Do you have a picture of the importer?s marking? Many more pictures would be great. Is the serial number actually scrubbed off of the bolt carrier?

No import mark (I?m Canadian) the dust cover, bolt carrier, trigger guard, and gas tube are all either missing serials or they are just barely visible. The mag was restamped. I?ll get more photos tonight for you.

That?s right, I forgot you were Canadian.

I asked because all of the Chinese honor guard SKSs in the U.S. were made for import by Norinco and imported in 1993. Yours looks like an honestly used original. Very cool  8)

All serials minus the mag are scrubbed (including bolt). Some parts are proprietary but most are standard SKS parts

Thanks for the full photo spread!  thumb1

If this is typical of the honor guard rifles then they were post-production conversions of Type 56s, like our HG imports. Disassembled, ground off serial numbers and polished those parts, dipped in nickel and chrome baths, reassembled. Anti-snag plate where the stock sling swivel used to be. Special cupped butt plate and altered stock.

I?ve noticed a pretty significant difference in different honours guards. Some have standard blades, some have elongated. Some have a swivel on the bottom and some the side. The chrome is also applied to the fsb, and bayonet sleeve on other models. Especially concerning the blade any idea why some are longer and some not?

They made a few unique parts for these so I?d guess the long bayonet was another unique part. Since they?re intended for ceremonial purposes I would guess an official with sufficient influence thought the deployed longer bayonet enhanced their ceremonial appearance. 100% a guess on my part.

Sorry just noticed this while cleaning. The stock is noticeably longer than a standard SKS stock. Figured I’d mention it
