Interesting flat sided receiver cover....what is on the other one(s) on file?  It would be interesting to find that feature common as an arsenal variation. Like the /906\ism of the 'dented' magazines.

Something I had considered about those was perhaps it was a way to get a little more meat for a side mounted scope to have contact with for side to side stability/durability...but this seems to predate the commercial models that began to include those.  This should be a 78 right?

Perhaps there is no real reason for the design change other than aesthetics, or maybe it was just easier to manufacture?

Sorry to open that can of worms again. (I'm not sorry) :)
