Another firearm I inherited from Dad. He has taken a lot of deer and hogs with it. Sam got her first deer and Mary has taken 2 or 3 with it, all with 130grain handloads. It's a real tack driver for an out-of-the box commercial rifle. The trigger pull is adjustable but I haven't tampered with it, Dad had it set lighter than I like them to be. I have heard folks bash these scopes but this is a Bushnell 3.5-10X Sportview 45mm that has been sitting on it a little over 20 years! No one that has shot this rifle ever had any complaints. Mary doesn't like the noise and recoil, Sam just laughs and calls her mom a "tittie"!

Thank you sir! She is the baby of the family and our "tomboy", most of our girls were. When it comes to shooting she is a dead ringer and the best shot of all of them!

06 I love the .30-06 round and reloaded for the several that I had. They are such a versatile round, I shot everything from the 110 grain to the 180 grain with all sorts of loads behind them!

I like the .270 because it has a tremendous punch and shoots flat for quite a ways.

Yesterday I shot about a dozen rounds from this rifle just to check it out. After shooting, I cleaned it up then discovered the bolt wouldn't close all the way. I puzzled over this the rest of the afternoon then Mary and I decided to take it to the local Gunsmith.

This evening I discovered through a site on the internet (savageshooters.com) that one shooter on that site had the same problem and the bolt holding the rifle in the stock was too tight. I loosened the stock bolt one half turn and the bolt functions perfectly! Many of you might have known this already but I thought I would share it with you in case you were in the dark like me!!

I'm just as happy as a tornado in a trailer park.

That's interesting...      amazing to me it can put the action in a bind to where the bolt wont close. I know torquing action screws to the same torque every time is said to be optimal for consistency and finding the perfect torque amount can tune the harmonics for accuracy improvements. But sheesh....  not allowing the bolt to close is a new one to me.

I would never have guessed it. Looking at the bed of the stock I can't see where the problem is!

Even now I can turn the bolt holding the rifle in the stock a half turn clock-wise and the bolt is locked up, when I loosen it a half turn...the bolt works freely! I remember Greasemonkey talking about how barrel bands on rifles affect accuracy if they are too tight or too loose. It is amazing to me what the torque on a small screw or machine bolt will do to the function/accuracy a firearm!

Good looking rifle. Now build your daughter and wife a 6.8 Remington spc ar and you can have basically identical ballistics to the 270. In case you didn't know that!

I didn't know that. It's a tempting suggestion but funds (lack thereof) are a problem right now!
