1891/59 rear sight leaf
« on: December 18, 2015, 09:46:31 PM »
Purchased one of these recently that had a scope mounted to the rear sight assembly. All the parts came with it.....except for the sight leaf itself. I could just slap a 91/30 on it, but it wouldn't be milled out like the original....SO....Does anybody have one? I suppose it wouldn't be impossible to have it milled out......ideas?

Not me. I imagine original M91/59 rear sight leafs are in the rare category.  Either be very patient in searching on ebay and GunBroker or have an M91/30 sight leaf milled to match the pics.  I don't know how you'd distinguish an "original" from one that someone stateside milled and reblued if you did find one.

I was thinking the same thing on both accounts......going to be hard to find....and if I modified one....and touched it up....it would be "correct". Frustrating.......they saved everything off of it...but lost the leaf??? cry1

I agree...I could get lost in a daydream staring at the grain on that stock.

Best of luck on your search...it will be worth it to do it right, but in the meantime...modding one just to send a few rounds downrange wouldn't be off base....any more than leaving it in unfireable condition whilst you wait for your unicorn. :)

I was weak..... :) I ordered a 91/30 leaf and I'll take it to the local machinist with a picture and get er' done. I love the stock too.....and the pictures don't do it justice. I put some pics on here after I get it on there.....

I think that you've made your best viable move.  I'm sure that some arsenal milled leafs do exist somewhere, including the one which was removed from your rifle, but searching for one on the market is going to be an effort in futility.

Show it off when you get it finished.
