Update on my $3 “Sino-Soviet” SKS
« on: May 28, 2018, 01:04:58 PM »
Okay, before I get in trouble, I know the phrase “Sino-Soviet” is kind of a made up term but it seems to be a common phrase among collectors. I am definitely a “ newbie” to the SKS but you guys have been very welcoming and helpful in guiding me through learning this gun. Some of you may remember my earlier post on this rifle. I purchased it for three bucks (The owner wanted to give it to me for free). It had suffered from some flood damage and had developed some pretty significant rust on the outside. The inside, however, was perfect and still wore a healthy coat of cosmaline. So, what’s my big update? Well, removing the rust left a lot of exposed steel and I’ve, finally, gotten around to touching it up with some Birchwood Casey cold-blue. LOL! I know, I know.... But, hey, it does look better! I love this little shooter! Thanks again for all your help and guidance, Guys!

Nice job! Looks like a Navy Arms scope rail on there too. Is the a NA import stamp in front of the rail on the receiver?

Which NA version would that be, PS? This one has the standard-length barrel and bayo lug still intact. My NA has the para-length barrel and bayo lug neutered. Were they considered to be the Cowboy Companion in either version?

Great save on that carbine TV.  I dont think you did anything wrong with the reblue considering what tis and the condition it was in when you got it.  Now, with some proper maintenance, it'll give good service for another 50 years!  thumb1

It's not a specific NA model. In addition to their house made models, Navy Arms would also add any accessory to any rifle, as well as build any SKS the way you wanted it.

Nice save Tv!!! If you're game for it, you could get the correct scope and mount (if you could find one), and it wouldn't break the bank. PAX

Great job. If/if an SKS can be made serviceable, I'd say go for it. A wall hanger or parts gun would be next.

1776 will commence again if you try to take our firearms... It doesn't matter how many Lenins you get out on the street begging for them to be taken.

Some people don't realize what they got, if they had a known nothing would a happened to this relic. I am guilty of that. My weapon stayed in the dark for over 25 yrs. When I moved I had no place to shoot. I kept it oiled regularly but I didn't know how to break it down until I saw how to in a magazine. Means so much to me now!

Nice save! That poor SKS was in abysmal condition. How's it shoot?

Shoots great. Pretty typical SKS service rifle accuracy but 100% reliability!

Pretty sure the impor mark is “Greensboro, N.C.”
